An alarm clock does it for me. What time are you going to bed and how old are you?

(I also thought you were talking about a different type of 'waking up')
  • well that type of wakeing up would help but i cant get there if im sleepy. any who, i go to bed between 10pm and 4 am. and im 17.

I suppose it very much depends on your lifestyle. Do you get enough sunlight? (a rhetorical question if you live in UK!)

There's a great article in National Geographic (sometime in the last year) that explains the teenage brain and its wildly different sleep needs. 14-18 year olds can sleep 12-14 hours a day sometimes and not feel rested. You're still growing.

The best thing you can do is try to be consistent with what time you go to bed. If you still have trouble sleeping/waking you may want to talk to a doctor about possible thyroid disorder or sleep apnea.

    Are you overweight?

I've heard Ajahn Brahm saying that teenagers are biologically programmed to sleep later and get up later than older adults; so if true (and I can't believe a Monk would lie), then that could be part of the problem.

    But:
i go to bed between 10pm and 4 am.
Do you find that you sleep in later when your bedtime is more towards the 4 am mark?

Try going to bed on the same day you wake up; that may help! Smiley face!

  • I would think it would be beneficial to have a set bedtime.
  • sorry i posted this its probably just my meds.

No, not at all cabossimm. It was fun.

What meds are you on (if that's not to personal?)? Maybe they have something to do with what time you get up? That is unless you're joking about being on medication.
  • i take 1250mg depacote 3mg risperedone and 1 mg clonopin

Risperdone is a sedative. Depakote causes "extreme drowsiness, lack of coordination, hallucinations". A 'very common side effect of clonopine is "Drowsiness" Are you taking the muscle relaxers because you got dyskenisia from the resperidole? (muscle twiching type effect)

i was taking Zyperexa which is like the same as risperdone and I got alot of muscle twitching so they gave me a drug like those.
  • no i have bipolar and anxiety which im starting to think i can over come with meditation and therapy. because people do it all the time.
  • one of the ways to wake up early is to get good sleep in the first place. the buddha recommends the practice of metta-bhavana (loving kindness meditaiton) to get good sleep. practice this for 10 minutes before sleep, this will make you get good sleep and you can wake up feeling fresh.

Another method is that when you wake up, watch the parts of the body which is attached to the lying posture so that you can detach from it/develop equnimity towards it and help you to get up. this depends on how much mindfulness you have developed.

Another more tough technique is that to continously produce the thought "GET UP, GET UP,GET UP,GET UP,GET UP,GET UP,GET UP,GET UP,GET UP,GET UP,GET UP" until you get up from bed :)
