  • I'm getting kind of old and I was also feeling soft and weak after years without much exercise. This is what I did. I started with about 10 push ups and sit ups to see if I could still do it. I gradually worked up a few more each day, it didn't take too long. Then I got a gym membership. I was nervous about what it would be like at first, self conscious, but I found out that everyone is just doing their own thing and didn't give a damn about me. The cardio machines are easy to use, I found. Pretty soon I had lost 20 lbs and felt stronger than I had in years. Unfortunately I have been away for 6 months and now have to start over. Not from scratch, but I will have a ways to go. Start slow but stay with it. You will see results before long.
  • You can always start out walking 1/2-hr. per day, and work up from there. Buy some free weights (they're cheap) and start working out at home. As you build up your walking regime, you can add light ankle weights. Swimming is good, too, if there's a public pool accessible to you. Swimming will get you in shape in no time!
  • Move. Don't sit. Don't think about moving. Don't plan to move. Move. Get up, do something. Do something today, then do that plus a *little* bit more tomorrow. Walking, swimming, gardening, taking out the trash. Do *something*.

    Change will happen....
  • I strongly recommend an mp3 player while practicing cardio/weight training. It will make it more fun because now you're moving to the music. It will give you the momentum needed to more easily pass your limits, and keep improving.
  • Music is a good idea
