website for cheap buddhism books?

edited October 2011 in Buddhism Basics
Amazon and abebooks have the lowest prices I have found so far. I'm trying to buy beyond mindfulness by gunaratana. It's about $10 after shipping on abebooks.com which isn't bad but i can find a lot of stuff for half that. Thanks.

  • I've only used Abe once a few years ago to buy a rare out-of-print collection of poetry I was after (and because it was rare, I had to pay a pretty penny).

I have often gotten books on Amazon used though and have gotten quite a few good deals (and usually the books were still in pretty good shape). There have been a few occasions where the shipping was actually more than the books!
  • Yeah. I just went ahead and used Abe today cause I know I can trust him. :) I was probably hoping for too much to find it any cheaper but I figured it was worth a try... Now I'm looking for a good presentation of buddhist philosophy...
  • I think I've posted it up somewhere before but here is a "Zen Buddhist 101" beginners list I came up with, six books listed in order. Just enough to get someone jumpstarted. (if Zen is your cup of tea, that is):

A cheeky little secret is http://www.wisdom-books.com/ they do offers and clearance sales on very good books :)
  • I have purchased Buddhist books from Half.com, they are an eBay company.
  • I lost my computer a few weeks back but keep looking there is an organization online that sells Buddhist Books for free but you have to pay for shipping and there are some Buddhist books online. You just have to know where to look.
  • Any more info on this organization @thejoieanna?

You pay only for the postage, which is cheap - I think I paid about £2.00 for the postage - it's genuine and I have received two books from this site.
  • Wow. Awesome. Thanks. Do you know if you lose anything from the full price versions?

No, the two books I received were full 'n' proper books. There's no 'catch', 'con', or 'hook' as far as I see it. They do just what they say; provide free Buddhist books just for the cost of postage.

And they use the cheapest postage too; I'm in the UK and these books arrived some weeks after I ordered them from abroad.

Actually, I've just been through my Buddhist book collection and had a clear out.

The following titles I won't read again (I doubt), so if anyone wants a book, PM me your address (give me your work address if you want to be safe), let me know which book you want - AND ONLY IF YOU LIVE IN THE UK - and I'll send you the book:

    This is the list:

    Introduction to Buddhism, G.K. Gyatso
Anger, Thich Nhat Hanh (it's less of a problem for me now :p)
Breaking Free, Srimala (a story about an English lady's journey through Buddhism)
The Heart of the Buddha's Teachings by Thich Naht Hahn
Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand, Pabongka Rinpoche (Lam Rim text, too heavy for me, I use another)

I'll pay the postage; just make a donation to charity.

When I have the money I will be exploring that opportunity.

I found the book Mind Beyond Death online as a PDF. It's my favorite book. It really blows your mind.
