I just read over half of Thailand is underwater right now. Are the folks from over there all right? ThailandTom, you and your friends staying above water?

  • Over half is an exaggeration, but those suffering aren't looking at statistics. I've just come from a week in Chiang Rai and areas south of there and it's dry with no flooding. Chiang Mai seems to be drying out, but Nakon Sawan and Ayutthaya are under water. I'm in Bangkok and waiting for flood waters to arrive. Store owners are putting up cement barriers to keep the water out and sand bags are everywhere.
  • It has been ongoing for over a month now, maybe 6 weeks of floods. Some areas flood pretty bad each year anyway, but yes this is unheard of, especially in bangkok. It is just another natural disaster that happens all over the world, droughts, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis-but the people here seem to be dealing with it rather well physically and mentally. It is not named the land of smiles for nothing :P
