Mindfulness therapies/workshops & Buddhism

What do you think of numerous mindfulness workshops & therapies where mindfulness plays a big part, such as MBSR and MBCT? They are becoming pretty mainstream now.

It has its roots in Buddhism, but is a completely "secular" approach, and "evidence-based".

Is it a helpful development? Is it a kind of secular Dharma? Or is it just a fad?

What do you think?

  • You left out DBT and ACT! ;)

I think mindfulness is the next step in the develpment of the cognitive and behavioral approaches to therapy. Yes, I think it is a very helpful development.

I think HHDD said the next Buddha will not be a person but a group of people? Maybe mindfulness based psychotherapies are the next Buddha?

(okay, probably not. But just a thought.)
