Comments

  • Do you mean what is holding you back from walking the eightfold path? Nothing on the path could ever hold anyone back from achieiving happiness and liberation. but there are many distraction preventing one from walking the path.
  • No a am asking for personal testimonies of which folds are holding people back..

We have a thread about which precept is difficult. This thread is about which fold is holding people back.
  • I have a difficulty with right speech. I cuss a lot. :p
  • lol, luckily not on NB or we would all be in trouble hehe I guess right livelyhood for me because I am unemployed,,

right effort because I just dabble in meditation and readings,,

    right mindfulness which leads to

right view in that I am not particularly aware of my thinking and thus there are avenues very cloudy
  • Right action for me, I struggle with alcoholism.

Right concentration, I don't meditate enough.
  • Right effort - I procrastinate, complain about work, etc... like surfing NB :p

But you know, this question has made me honestly read and assess the relevance of the 8 precepts to my own development... I'm very much a beginner!
  • right speech- a lot of idle chatter =P
right concentration- dont meditate as much as i would like to
  • Which one of these doesn't belong? Thinking, concentration, meditation, ? Are all of these accepted as varied definitions?
  • girlls, check out the wiki link in the opening post..

concentration is very similar to meditation.. pretty much the same.. There is no right thinking but there is right view..

intention and view comprise wisdom, speach action and livelyhood are ethics...

Meditation = concentration + mindfulness + meditation (odd that there are two meditations listed)

Mindfulness is when you notice what is happening. Like you notice whether something is good or bad for you. Concentration is when you feel unified and balanced and steady. I am not sure I can define meditaion, but it is when you are in the emergent present moment and staying with it however it is even if it is not a moment that you want. Perhaps meditation is seeing that 'you' 'want' is a misperception or at least just a passing urge.
  • Right livelihood *smile*
