Looks like bangkok is going under, the government has tried to down play this thing for a while to keep yinluck and her party looking good. For those who don't know, the thai's ousted Thaksin as priminister a few years ago through a coup, yet the elected in his sister this term, and she said herself she was an almost carebon copy of her brother... :wtf: She is a novice with little experience, just like obama. Anyway, here is the link

A Thai version of Obama? Hmmm, well, Bangkok is screwed then. :(
  • If Bangkok shuts down, be it for a little while or a long period of time, then Thailand shuts down, in countries like this, that can easily cause civil unrest at a rapid rate.

I've always been interested in riots, civil unrest, and revolutions. I'm curious as how this will turn out. Best of luck to you, Tom (with this and the whole money issue too).
  • Yea, your rapture post of toay the 21st seems to becomming a reaity at least for me hey. I myself have always been intrigued by riots, I don't know why, I think it is just the idea of over throwing corruption.
If I was back in the UK when those riots were going on, even if they were unjust, I may have joined in myself.

Thanks for wishes of luck, the thing is I live 2 hours south of bangkok and if 25% of the population have to flee, a large number of people will head this way as it is an 'un-floodable' town as there is no river systems close by. Anyway, I have an 18 inch machete so people can try what they will.. I would let a few people in my house to stay, but where do you draw the lin? I would get swamped.
  • My gf has two children in Bangkok, one 13 and one 18. The 13 year old is with some of his family in a southern province, but his brother is stuck at home on the 3rd floor in a north/eastern province.

Yinluck decided today was the day that the flood gates should be opened allowing all of the flood water to pass through central bangkok east towards the sea. She had so much information weeks before and she decided to direct the water to the outter fringes and villages, destroying factories, homes and lives. Now that has been done, 'oh it is now time to direct the water right through the capital'. So basically she has given Bangkok a double blow, as I posted before she is a novice and I have no idea why the thai population voted her in, considering her ack of experience and even more so that she is the brother of thaksin who was ousted a few yars back through a coup.
When the voting was going ahead, I asked my gf who she would vote for, she never did but her answer was Yinluck. I asked why and she couldn't really give me an answer of any worth.

The water level is suppose to rise over the next couple of days as well, fun fun fun
