Bodhisattva vow

edited November 2011 in Meditation
Hello everyone,
I thought I would share with you the vow my teacher has asked me to recite every day, as part of my practice. Even for those of you from different traditions or other religions, I think you'll agree it's a wonderful meditation:

May all beings have happiness
And the causes of happiness.

May all beings be free from suffering
And the causes of suffering.

May all know the supreme happiness
That is devoid of suffering.

May all live in the great equanimity
Without attachment, aversion or ignorance.

Just as the earth, and the other three elements
Together with space
Eternally nourish and sustain all living beings;

So may I be a source of nourishment
And sustenance for all beings
As long as they have not attained to peace.

May the great jewel, the Bodhicitta
Not yet born, be born.

Born, may it not decrease
But increase from height to height.

  • Wow those words have a transformative power they feel good. The last ones my sangha says as:

may the heart's awareness waken in the unawakened
where it has begun to stir may it never fade
    and may it awaken fully
