Rather than fearing death, one should approach the Bardo states as opportunities for enlightenment

Comments

  • As I understand it, all states are "Bardo states". This is a bardo, and there are other bardos which we can enter temporarily in meditation, at or after death.
  • > ... or after death

As far as we know the bardo after death is one in which there is no sensation whatsoever, and no thoughts. That is, all of the six senses, which includes the mind, have ceased. There's no convincing evidence for the view that thinking continues.
  • My understanding of bardo is as an in - between - state .... like a holding pattern, however that may experienced by an individual. In any discussion or use of the concept it does not suggest a state of extinguishment.
