okay my 'chills' moment

I call these 'god moments' but I know that is a phrase that may put some people off here, no worries.

In the middle of all this i had a staff person call to quit and give no notice, she would only be there that afternoon and then gone, a site with a full almost 75 kids. So I went into the hall since I talk very loud and had the conversation which was something like "if you have toquit without 10 days notice then you will not be hireable in teh district forever, we value your work and hope that you do not have to do that, please check with your new job to see what they can do and i understand you need to take the job with more pay and hours" with a few more words of course. So another person overheard me and came up to tell me that was sooo good and she wished I was her boss. Then she just hugged me in the hall. I know I work with mostly women but that is still blowing me away.

Considering this week and how many times I have heard that I am not actually a mother to my kids (from them, no one else) that was realy realy amazing for me and validated that all this focus on skillful words CAN make a difference. The staff told me later that I was gracious and didnt argue rules out of my control

(btw can I say that I think employers are taking advantage of the economy, to not let a new hire give their current job notice and facing the consequences when we all know ther is very little job security, well it isn't right)

  • I like your posts, Aheerdt. They're always so real, down to earth, honest, and interesting.

It's a shame you're not an alkie; I'd like to hear you share at our meetings! :D

I've nothing to add; I'm self employed; life's simpler for me that way.

    Skillfully done - congratulations!
  • Thank you! I am a writer at heart but not money so that is great encouragement.

Hey at one point after my divorce I wanted to join AA and fake being an alkie just to have friends. Maybe that is an option and I can write about it?

What a great example of putting principles into practice! You go, girl! :)

There are reports circulating that the Unitarian Universalists are very open to Buddhists, and are great for making friends. If you try them out, please report back to us.

Freelance writing is a definite option for extra income. I've considered it myself.
  • I was actually in a UU church and still go to their small sangha group. I had an issue with a couple and have not been comfortable (something about the husband seriously thinking I wanted to sleep with him and the wife saying ok, so I kicked him across the couch and broke off the friendship)
  • OMG!! Who knew the UU's had a wild side?

I have actually heard of this happening, but it's not good, so I'm glad you didn't do it.

However, do you know what the greatest, most massive insult an A.A. member can give another? It's to accuse them of not being an alcoholic. Serious!

It's funny, 'cos for years most of us denied being one, then when we finally accept we are one, if someone were to accuse us of not being an alkie, ooohhhhh; it'd be fighting time!

  • OMG, so feeling like talking like a teen. Do you know one of my 2 all time fave movies? Well one is babette's feast, incredible movie. And the other is Fight Club. It is a very warped and amazing movie. If you haven't seen it Edward Norton goes to support groups because he has insomnia. if he goes and cries then he can sleep. It works until another 'faker' starts showing up at the meetings, everything from AA to cancer to TB, and then he can't cry or sleep anymore.
  • I love Prayers for Bobby. And Carrie.
  • Is prayers for bobby with john travolta? And I think I saw a thread on this we can jump on,
  • Prayers for Bobby is the story of a Christian Fundamentalist mother's journey of acceptance of homosexuality too little too late.
  • Ahhh, never saw it but I will look for it now. There is one i was thinking of like that, maybe a short film? based on a book and I am totally blanking the title. But beautiful filme. The mom has accepted the son and he is dying of aids, the father cannot and after his death tries to learn who his son was.
