Weird experiences.. Paranormal etc
When I was having a strong attack of mania I was driving to the grocery store and I stopped at a bookstore in the Plaza. I looked at all the buddhist books as I was studying buddhism at the time. I looked at all of them and then a force drove me to look at the very top shelf (or was it bottom). This was in a less conspicuous section. A book glowed and so I bought it. It wasn't a visual glow it is hard to explain but it looked different somehow. That book was a book by the Da Lai Lama on Dzogchen. I tried my hardest to read that book but I just couldn't get it particularly with my thoughts screwed by my illness. One year later I saw a course given on a google search and I researched the teacher as a background in Mahamudra which is similar to Dzogchen. So that has been my foundational approach to buddhism for the past 5 years though the actual course and sangha is a mahayana sangha (not tantric). I think due to some of my experiences living with an alcoholic borderline personality girlfriend while bipolar, in school, and working... I had to transform some experiences with Tonglen and I think the bipolar/schizoaffective was a kundalini rising gone wrong. I think that created some karma that directed me towards my place in the buddhist mandala.
