Affirmation

Savage Garden

I believe the sun should never set upon an argumentI believe we place our happiness in other people's handsI believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for youI believe your parents did the best job they knew how to doI believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteemI believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself aloneI believe in Karma what you give is what you get returnedI believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burnedI believe the grass is no more greener on the other sideI believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbyeI believe you can't control or choose your sexualityI believe that trust is more important than monogamyI believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul (Note to self: I think I might use this one)I believe that family is worth more than money or goldI believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfairI believe the only ones who disagree are millionairesI believe in Karma what you give is what you get returnedI believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burnedI believe the grass is no more greener on the other sideI believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbyeI believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappinessI believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressedI believe that God does not endorse TV evangelistsI believe in love surviving death into eternityI believe in Karma what you give is what you get returnedI believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burnedI believe the grass is no more greener on the other sideI believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong,
Under the shade of a Coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled,
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.

    Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.

    ....................

Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee,
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.

    Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me,
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.

    .....................

Up rode the squatter mounted on his thorough-bred
Down came the troopers One Two Three
Whose that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.

    Waltzing Matilda Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me
Whose that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker-bag
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.

    ......................

Up jumped the swagman sprang in to the billabong
You'll never catch me alive said he,
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.

    Waltzing Matilda Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.

(Jumbuck is an Australian slang word for sheep

Squatter in this instance means landowner

Billabong means drinking spot or pool in an intermittent stream

Because of the very dry conditions in out-back Australia, streams and rivers can often become dry leaving only a few water-holes where stock are able to drink

This tune is a traditional Scottish Melody and the words are by A. B. Paterson who is generally referred to as Banjo Paterson. Banjo is one of our favorite poets.)

    ehhhhhhhhhhh Rolf Harris :D

There's an old Australian stockman, lying, dying,
and he gets himself up on one elbow,
and he turns to his mates,
who are gathered 'round him and he says:

    Watch me wallabys feed mate.
    Watch me wallabys feed.
    They're a dangerous breed mate.
    So watch me wallabys feed.
    Altogether now!

    Tie me kangaroo down sport,
    tie me kangaroo down.
    Tie me kangaroo down sport,
    tie me kangaroo down.

    Keep me cockatoo cool, Curl,
    keep me cockatoo cool.
Don't go acting the fool, Curl,
    just keep me cockatoo cool.
    Altogether now!

    Take me koala back, Jack,
    take me koala back.
He lives somewhere out on the track, Mac,
    so take me koala back.
    Altogether now!

    Mind me platypus duck, Bill,
    mind me platypus duck.
Don't let him go running amok, Bill,
    mind me platypus duck.
    Altogether now!

    Play your digeridoo, Blue,
    play your digeridoo.
Keep playing 'til I shoot thro' Blue,
    play your digerydoo.
    Altogether now!

Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred,
tan me hide when I'm dead.
So we tanned his hide when he died Clyde,
(Spoken) And that's it hanging on the shed.
    Altogether now!

I'll ummmmmmm fetch me coat

Seriously though, I often find myself singing the Savage Garden song in my head - should I be worried? ;)

    Sas :buck:

many years ago Rolf Harris had some great songs (he used to host a tv program here in aus when I was a boy-only yesterday).

I cannot hear this song without getting misty-eyed its about the first world war etc.

In 1969, during a tour of Arnhem Land with his wife and daughter, Rolf briefly stayed with a man called Ted Egan. Ted sung him this song, which Rolf recorded on tape. When he got back to England and talked his television producer into using the song, Rolf discovered he had lost the tape! Rolf rang Ted, twelve thousand miles away in Canberra, and got him to sing the song over the phone. Alan Braden arranged the song for the TV show, and the audience reaction was so marvellous that Rolf decided to record it. This song was top of the hit parade for seven weeks over Christmas 1969.

(Morse - Madden arr. Braden) H. Darewski Music / EMI / Redwood Music (P) 1969
Cond. Alan Braden - Produced by Mickey Clarke

Two little boys had two little toys
    Each had a wooden horse
Gaily they played each summer's day
    Warriors both of course
One little chap then had a mishap
    Broke off his horse's head
Wept for his toy then cried with joy
    As his young playmate said

Did you think I would leave you crying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Jack and don't be crying
I can go just as fast with two
When we grow up we'll both be soldiers
And our horses will not be toys
And I wonder if we'll remember
When we were two little boys

Long years had passed, war came so fast
    Bravely they marched away
Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd
    Wounded and dying lay
Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out
Out from the ranks so blue
Gallops away to where Joe lay
Then came a voice he knew

Did you think I would leave you dying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying
I can go just as fast with two
Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble
    Perhaps it's the battle's noise
    But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

Do you think I would leave you dying
There's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying
Back to the ranks so blue
Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble
    Perhaps it's the battle's noise
    But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

and then there is this one...
    Whiskey on a sunday..

He sits on the corner of Bebbington Bush
Astride of an old packing case

And the dolls at the end
    Of the plank were dancing
As he crooned with a smile on his face (walk-down 3 frets)

    Come day go day
Wishing in me heart it was Sunday
    Drinking buttermilk all the week
    Whiskey on a Sunday

His tired old hands tugged away at the strings
And the puppets they danced up and down
A far better show than you ever would see
In the fanciest theatre in town

But in 1902 old Seth Daly died
His song it was heard no more
    The three dancing dolls
    In the dustbin were thrown
And the plank went to mend the backdoor

    But on some stormy night
    If you´re passing that way
With the wind blowing up from the sea
You can still hear the song
    Of old Seth Daly
As he croons to his dancing dolls three

    Great songs. Great entertainer.

    cheers

Ah! The wonderful Rolf, now a "Commander of the British Empire" (good to be able to command a non-existent empire).

Let us not forget his first great hit Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport which introduced some of us to the word "abo".

Seriously, tho', Rolf is a not insignificant fine artist and has even painted the Queen.

You're no freak. He is a remarkable perforers (although I found"Animal Hospital" unwatchably terrible). I did see him, decades ago, perform "Jake the Peg" at the Albert Hall. That was hilarious.
