Walkathons? What about meditatathons?

Do you think a sangha could hold a meditatathon like a walkathon? Get sponsors for dharma donations for each hour of meditation?

Just a thought.

  • They should make one. They should also have a weekly TV program that you can join in on a weekly session and then you can blog about it on their website or something. Guess we can't have everything.

  • Against the Stream did one a while back.

    oops, duplicate post.

While I'm here, instead of a "flash mob", how about a "flash sangha"?

How would you know people are really meditating instead of just sitting there, under pretense....?
I mean, it's not like running a marathon, when you can actually gague the effort people are putting in....
  • Unless everyone gathered in a big open field and sat in a meditationathon.
  • hmm, yeah you could have some fakers but wouldnt that be boooring for them.

I say that would be cool, I started going to this church that is interfaith focused, kinda bring together my upbringing and my beleifs right now. They do a lot of work in the community, serve about 1,000 meals a week coordinating with other organizations to feed the hungry/homeless. I could feel good about doing something like that to support the things this group of churches/groups does.
  • Yeah I guess it could be an event where everyone is visible and can be accounted for that they are medititating
