Considering it is just gone midnight here, there is not a lot I can buy. But I am having som serious sinus trouble and pain. It hirts through my teeth, nose, well my entire face. Does anybody have any solutions to sinus trouble that they know of? I would appreciate it thanks :)

I had the worst sinus condition of my life a couple of months ago. Resulted in me being dizzy with headaches...turned out there was also fluid behind the ear. Please do have it checked out...really bad sinus infections can go into the brain!!! I eventually was given a cortisone nasal spray, which was slow acting, but ultimately worked. Also took Afrin OTC nose spray...but you have to be careful and not use that more than 3 consecutive days, or it can actually worsen the situation (read directions carefully). Good luck!
  • Wow, I never knew they could end up being so severe as that 0_o I do not think I have an infection of the sinus, I think it is a symptom of a cold that has been going around, still it hurts like hell. I don't have a headache, it is mainly around my teeth, cheeks and nose. Thanks for the info though. The one thing I miss about the UK, the NHS. I would walk in there 2moro free and get everything looked at and sorted without a care about the cost. I don't know why so many Americans are against it...

Try this. Take 2 fingers and just tap on your forehead just a tad above the space between your 2 eyebrows. That's right in front of your largest sinus cavity (and perhaps the one with most potential for dangerous infection). If it feels really weird, then that sinus may be infected, or at least full.

If you don't have high blood pressure or some other condition that would advise against it, you can also take decongestants. I can't due to high BP.
  • How would you define 'weird' when tapping that area? I have had HP before, when I stop taking my medication it goes right up, one readin was 184, that being the first number on the reading.

wow...that is quite high for BP...where I get very worried. Normal for systolic (that top number) is up to 130.

Weird is hard to define. Like inside there was jello vibrating. :screwy:
  • Last time I got my BP checked it was about 134 if I recall, but when it was up at 184 I was under going cold turky on diazepam, and HB is a symptom. Jello, hmm lol I can't quite say if it feels that way or not :P I will see how I feel in the morning, but thanks for the input vinlyn.

Ah, understandable. 134 is "okay"...in fact just about 12 years ago it was still considered to be in the normal range.
  • Well I am only 23 years old.. I got mine checked about 4 years ago in the UK and he said I was border line for having HBP at the age of 19... not good but owel. Small doses of paracetomol daily is good for the condition as it thins the blood out.
  • you could try snorting water up your nose and then gently blowing it out again (if any is left up there) - a weak saline solution like the stuff used for contact lenses can provide relief - place tip up nose and lean your head to one side and let that baby rip for a couple of seconds....

if not then it may be inflamed and / or infected - see a doctor...

Yes, that was another thing that was recommended by my ENT. You can buy the packets. Not sure what the home-made ratio of salt to water would be.
  • Steam can do wonders for sinuses. A hot shower is great, or just boil water and hold your face over it - carefully, of course. It should help break up the gunk and make your nose run. If you're a tea-drinker, make a hot cup of tea and hold it under your nose for a while. Good luck!

PS - if it's available in your area, some eucalyptus essential oil added to the steam (not the tea though - DO NOT INGEST ESSENTIAL OIL) is awesome, provided you don't have allergies.

Don't use regular water! I use a neti pot, but distilled water is always recommended. If you cannot get distilled water, you can boil water and let it return to room temperature.

I do a variation on this:

Although, I apply a lot more pressure when I'm working on myself. I also massage the neck a little bit and tend to apply strokes working from the nose to out and over the cheek. I get that similar pain that makes you feel like you have a cavity when I have sinus problems. After doing this for a while, it really does make a movement of congestion, which is sort of gross... but hey, it's the goal, right?
  • Have you ever tried a neti pot?
