Mental Static

So after a bit of meditation today I was thinking about some things I read. Don't look to the past and don't look to the future. And I had this thought maybe all that keeps arising in my mind is an illusion just mental static. Part of me is how can i say this.. wanting to unplug I guess... idk

  • What are the implications if your mind is just static and an illusion? Some philosophers thought of this idea.

Are you suffering in some way that unplugging might help? If a TV is broken a TV repairman can help.

Buddhism is about relieving suffering is why I asked if you were suffering somehow.
  • Hmmm good question.

I think I may have missed that you might not be suffering you may just be interested in illusory nature of experience. That is definitely something to explore.
  • Yes. Im not really suffering but exactly just tring to understand that illusion I read about alot.
  • I kinda see in the sense all form is not really form but perpetual energy always transforming.
  • In my meditation I interpret what arises as thoughts or stories. So it's kinda sometimes static and sometimes a storyline. The thoughts can have a certain quality about them, what I feel about them. Sometimes body feelings.
  • What your saying makes sense. I was mindfull of my stomache today tightening and looking at my mind grasping. And tring to just let go. Think I understand that. In away realized my breathing is not true.

So you were trying to let go and then you had an idea that the breath was not true? That's interesting. I usually think of ideas as maybe not totally true. When you say 'the breath' what kind of associations are you making? Physical? Or as an idea in Buddhism and spirituality?
  • Non Buddhist related but you might enjoy Plato's republic or Socratic philosophy...make sites it's annotated...the Greeks loved to break things down into states of "nothing "...
  • Typo...make sure..
  • When I feel lost in thought then come back.

Not sure what you meen bout states of nothing.

Everything...you, the chair, me, Jeffrey, your thoughts, your past, your bones and flesh, could be broken down to atoms and space that are making the form that you see, which is the chair, the computer, your body...etc. thoughts and emotions are little energies...they have a fleetingness to them (is that a word) ...much like a dream. In fact everything that forms your reality could be questioned whether it trully exists and or you are merely asleep and Jeffrey and I are part of your dream.
  • I believe im everything from my past. But not my future
  • Is there anything...please think.

Is there anything you can not doubt?

    Can you point at nothing?
  • I wanna believe im an evil full of all this hatred and anger thats poured out all these years but i cant!
  • You are not your past, although we honor the past because it has contributed to you and what you are NOW.

I think of tolle. He said that if you think about it, there has never been a moment you have not been in the PRESENT.. when you think of the past now, you are in the PRESENT thinking about the past. The future does not exist...when December 21, 2012 rolls around and you are still alive, you will be in the PRESENT.

when you die, you will be in the present. You are always in the PRESENT.

when you think of past, now. It is colored with hindsight...when you think or worry about future, the mind uses past data to color what it thinks the future will be.

Hence you become a bridge for past and future.

Cultivating presence through mindfulness meditation and awareness...keeps you grounded in the here and now.
  • Lets pretend you are all those hateful things you just said. I've said worse about myself...and they were true!

What are you going to do about it?
  • There is no future darling...your salvation and your CHOICE to draw a line in the sand and say "no more, I will make a step to change " will be done in the present.

No one can save you, but yourself. No one can change you, but you. No one will love you like you do.

If you don't do it now, then when?
    if not here, then where?
    If not you, then who?

Now. Here. You. Choose to love yourself...don't take any more pleasure in punishing yourself.
  • Now. Here. You. Choose to love yourself...don't take any more pleasure in punishing yourself.
Agree with this. I also think what @Jeffrey said is wise: identifying the story lines and doing away with them helps.
  • If you don't find a way out, no one will. We can point the way but you are tonnage have to do this sojourn. When you get to a better place you will be emotionally, spiritualy, mentally stronger and you can turn around and use your experience to help others!

    That's great! Don't you think?
  • Going to ...typo
  • Idk my daughter just jumped outa bed and gave me a hug hug on my leg...
  • But my past strengthens me my resolve to find a better path for me my daughter and my family.
  • Then you are doing well...and you are very lucky to have a daughter who loves you so much. I have been married 12 years and there was a time I wanted a daughter so bad, but we are childless. I have come to peace with it...but family is so important. Love is the biggest motivator.
  • Im sorry, Yes it can move any obstacle. Pain sufffering hatred lack of unwillingness. guilt pain nothing stands before it.
  • Now I wanna harness that.
  • If that makes sense ..
  • I think so, yes. I feel the same way about awareness. :)
  • I think love is great what stands between me and the joe on the corner now.
  • Goodnight, darling. I hope your meditation goes well. Harness love!
  • My heart does not lie. The only one I can count on now. Goodnight, Lady of love.
