Burmese Prayer?

edited February 2012 in Buddhism Basics
When I was in Myanmar a man taught us a mantra, or something, at Shwedagon Pagoda. He didn't speak any English, so we didn't actually know what it was. He told us what to say, we repeated him. He instructed us to bow, then we offered flowers.

I really want to know what it was. I know the odds aren't very good. But would anyone here happen to know some Myanmar mantras? I don't remember any of the words, all I know is that it repeated a lot. There were probably only four different things we had to say, but it was repeated a lot, perhaps in lots of three. I have a sneaking suspicion that one of the words may have been 'happily', but I'm not sure.

  • Near the bottom of this list of mp3s is one called "Paritta Pali Chanting," sung by a Burmese Buddhist teacher; those listed are from the traditional basic chants which all Burmese sangha learn. They're very popular in Burma among laypeople as well...maybe there's a chance yours is among them?
