What jobs can you get with a Studio Art degree?

Yesterday I received an acceptance letter from the university where I applied. In the middle of my happy dance, I noticed what it listed my major as "Studio Art". In the application process, I was almost certain that I selected Graphic Design.

I'm going to call and fix it, but I got to wondering; what can you do with a degree in Studio Art? Is Graphic Design a part of this field of study?

On a related note, is it academically possible to get a Masters in Fine Art after getting a Bachelors in Art?

Why not? But you should address your questions to the academic adviser in your chosen field at your university. He or she can answer your career questions, too, a lot better than we could. That's exactly what academic advisers are paid to do.

  • Yes mfas are possible. A friend of mine graduated at art school with me and now is in ny getting his mfa in illustration.

I've thought about getting my mfa in 2d design at cranbrook but ita really expensive.

Usually people go for their mfa after a decent amount of work in ther specific field.

In regards to your question. Does studio are refer to illustration or fine art?

In illustration there are jobs depending on your skillset.

In fine art its really hard to find jobs.

In graphic design there are jobs as well.
  • With an MFA you can get museum curator jobs, especially if you take a course in museology. I don't know if that's your bag.
  • You could also teach with an MFA. =]

I'm not sure what exactly 'studio art' is, but I would think that it sounds more like fine arts than graphic design. I have several friends who are graphic designers and their curriculum tends to be a bit different than those with fine arts degrees, obviously, a lot more computer work, for example...
