We have not been in the majority

how interesting, my kids are looking at their old yearbooks from California. We counted and my daughter was one of about 6 white children in a class of 32. We spent some years in suburbia and now we are in the city, where we are often in the minority here as well. It is just interesting, and I think it is a good thing.

  • What is the demographics of your town? I thought Colorado was white, then Hispanic?
  • Well in California it was Hispanic, Phillipino and white in fairly equal numbers. In the suburb area in Colorado there was a huge variety (my daughter had friends who spoke Vietnamese, Lithianian, Albanian and Spanish at home) but still majority white. Now downtown Denver is much more black than anyplace we have lived before, and where I work it is high majority Hispanic which was true in California too.

It is just interesting, I am glad my kids are growing up this way rather than the separated communities like I did, not rascist just not much diversity.
  • It is good to see, like I mentioned in another thread, each week I see things that suggest people are coming together more, we as a species are starting to be more wise and accepting. Of course there are those who do not accept this, but they are fewer and fewer.

    Where are you? Denver?

  • do you do yard work and the cat box? we can talk
  • @vinlyn, yes Denver. Downtown now. Not too far from the zoo and the old airport if you have been around long enough to recall Stapleton. It is a pretty ritzy area now.

My dream job was in Colorado Springs. I was 2nd in line. It was a brand new charter school for GT focus, sigh. I actually got to talk to the director about how Ithought gifted kids were best taught by identified gifted adults, but GT adults often bumble social things and have a hard time getting there. Also my research idea on the correlation between humor, inferencing and vocabulary and gifted as an alternative evaluation. I have switched gears to looking at literacy and out of school time programming right now since that is what I am working in.

Well kinda wandered off didn't I.

This is interesting. Before retirement, I was the principal of a school in Virginia that had a very strong GT program.

  • ahhh, I really wanted that focus in education. Well my son is in Denver School of the Arts and I do love what I do (a more livable wage is honestly my only issue, and it can be a very realistic one).
  • I have foraging and survival skills...I can tan hide and hunt...oh wait. Vegans...?no no, nevermind...lol...you eat some meat, now.

Cat box? Uh, you mean cleaning? Or you want me to share a bed with your Kitty and be litter box trained?

    :D
  • hmm, foraging and tanning leather don't come up as often as taking public transportation and not making eye contact with the dangerous homeless population.
