Arm-Pit Hair and Rebirth

ThailandTomThailandTom Veteran
edited March 2012 in General Banter
As I was watching my partner pluck her tiny little hairs from her armpits over and over, it hit me that it was very much alike re-birth. I will tell you why. She plucks at these hairs on a regular basis because she does not like the idea of having hair there, so in affect she wants to look a certain way, fair enough. But of course as the hairs start to grow back they itch, and this happens everytime. I often hear you complaining "kan kan kan" which it 'itch' in thai, just said three times. If she were to simply let them grow, then there would not be this ongoing process of itching and plucking, similar to the idea of continual rebirth in a samsaric world. Just a thought I had and wanted to share :)

I can think of better analogies....
thanks for that... i think in images, so i'm stuck with this one all day....!
  • No problem :) Anytime I can help ruin someones day, I try my best. I probably could think of better analogies as well, but this one just came to me and then it was almost an unconscious act from thought to finger to thread!
  • Ouch! Lol! She must have a high tolerance for pain.

Holy crap. Don't they use shavers in Thailand? Perhaps my hair is just too thick but uh... that is way more than I could handle.

Not necessarily responding to the rebirth analogy... but a lot of beauty things are really futile. For example, when I break out on my face, I wear make up to cover it up... which sometimes causes me to break out more... which is more to cover up... heh.
  • I guess some people do, but her logic is that the hair will grown back slower and not as thick if she plucks. I often help with her eyebrows as well. I guess it is painful, kind of like a slow wax lol!
  • Waxing is preferable all at once like ripping off a bandaid ...speaking of which, I get a painful shot today by the worst nurse in the world...yay!
  • O yea, those nurses that you spoke of, your new friends :) Well just Irish up your coffee like usual and you will be good to go. I am actually really quite good at perfecting my Gfs eyebrows, along with my new found skill in massage I mine as well open some kind of salon/palor or something.
  • Thailand Tom's spa and wax....

There's a wax and salon here in Houston called BUSH WACKERS.

    lol
  • That may be the most bizarre thread title I've ever seen...
  • Blowing my nose is like rebirth- the boogers just come back.

    lol
Or maybe just Tom, I have been wanting to change my name as it kind of confines me to a place and people often think I am Thai lol.

Yes maybe so, but do you not see the comparison, also @lamaramadingdong you could say it about boogers, but my point was that my GF strives for this beauty, or this specific way of looking, and it causes dukkha, and that of course leads to the long lasting rebirth of samsara.
  • Same thing with boogers- it's the clinging that's the problem.

lol, funny. That did bring a smile to my face I must admit. Are you a 1-linger stand up by any chance?
  • Just having some fun :)
  • Just having some fun :)
And quite rightly so sir :) If both parties are smiling, then what is the harm..?
  • I'm going to be getting mine laser'ed away ... no further becoming? :p
  • lol, the future of nibbana, in hair terms that is. zaaaap lasers. I cannot help but picture and hear in my head Dr Evil from Ausin Powers saying 'Laser'

  • When I first read the title, I couldn't bring myself to open it, just oh boy came to mind, but my curiosity got the best of me.
After reading it I thoughts, were OUCH, your gf needs a laser for Christmas so at least this part of her suffering could be let go.

So if she lasered them away would that act in some way prevent another from being reborn to learn whatever lesson there is living life as an underarm hair? or is it the hairs keep coming back because they have yet to learn the lesson so they can move on to the next lesson?

I however thought it was an awesome thought provoking analogy.
Thank for the morning cringe and laugh,

lol no problem, thank you for the reply. At least someone gets it!! I think the lazer could symbolize spontaneous enlightenment, or at least a rebirth a deva realm as they are not permanent and the beings they are subject to rebirth still.
