just got back from Boulder, sigh
I think I am well over my urge to move back there some day. We went to a cool hotel for my son's birthday with an indoor pool. Plus the kids got to watch as much TV as they wanted and we ordered food delivered. These are all big treats. We swam in the pool, and then sat in the hot tub and then tried the sauna. Today we went to Pearl Street. It is the open air mall, a street closed to traffic, and it is very mixed Boulder style.
We saw the guy who rolled his piano onto the mall, the balloon makers for kids dressed in crazy clothes (not cool crazy), the contortionist who kept on shouting 'look at me, I am sober now', and the knitting ladies. They were doing some knitting for peace deal, I didn't understand. I had forgotten how it is wonderful (in Boulder) to wear mistmatched clothes as long as it all came from all cotton sources woven by indigent women in other countries. What I never understood is the mismatched all cotton clothing with the overpriced vegan earth shoes. But I understand it is just me who needs things to match. Even as a punk I didn't do what my kids do, camo with tye dye and lots of black. My blacks all matched. And my mom put french bread on the table for every meal, including Asian stir fry. Nope can't do it (they willbe here for dinner and my son's concert tomorrow, dinner is baked salmon with avacado and tomato salsa, asparagas made with fresh ginger, some rice and mashed cauliflower with parmesan cheese so I can stick to my temporary South Beach diet and be ready to do field trips to the pool weekly over the summer)
So there was my realization that I am no longer a Boulder person, but we did stop by ourfavorite Tibetan shop as we always buy something from them. I got my zafu there and the bowl I donated to our meditation group. Today I have a nifty bracelet that is supposed to balance me out according to the stones.

Baked salmon with avocado and tomato salsa? Rice and mashed cauliflower with parmesan cheese? hmm... not enough time left to make it up to Denver for dinner. I'll write this down and try it myself. What kind of rice do you use? (Where is the lip-smacking emoticon?)
So the avacado and tomatoe are diced small with a bit of lime juice and cilantro. My parents would not appreciate jalapeno. Caulifower just steamed, drained and mashed up with some butter and parmesan. The rice I am really not picky about other than putting in chicken bouillon and dried parsley. I usually get the 10 lb bags from the Asian grocery store. And asparagus is sauteed with garlic and fresh ginger for a few minutes, then broth is added and steamed until done. I get requests for the salsa and asparagas.
Start one under "Arts and Writings". Yum.
