I don't know where exactly in America this took place, but I am hoping someone on here knows about this maybe locally as NB has many American members.

I imagine it's some runoff from the Chicago river. They dye the river green every year for St. Pattie's day... just like the beer...

Really, wow that is quite way to celebrate, green beer as well, thanks for the info.

Do they do anything for St. Patrick's Day in other parts of the world?

Here, people start drinking as early as 6/7am along with the some sort of 'traditional' Irish breakfast. Everyone wears green. The major domestic beers make special 'green' kegs of beer for the day. And then... you just drink until you can't do it anymore...

This year, I had an entire beer poured on me by a drunk mess on St. Patrick's day at work... Soaked my bra and my underwear, don't ask how... Not my favorite day.

As with so many things, Americans do things 'bigger and better'... it's not celebrated nearly as prominently here. either because the Irish are on home territory, and there's no 'distant nostalgic yearning'.... if you see what i mean .... or because, maybe, the "Irish Troubles" are never far away, and too fresh in the memory of those involved.
In fact, neither St. David's day (Wales) nor St.Andrew's day (Scotland) are celebrated to any grand extent, and neither is St George's day - which incidentally, is also William Shakespeare's birthday.... so England should really have a double celebration.
  • I must admit, the UK does not really celebrate much on these days, which is why I was pretty astonished at the lengths you guys have gone to by making a river and beer green lol. From what I can remember, the people I knew just use to get drunk on St Patricks Day, I can't remember seeing any decorations or things of that nature.
