    How do you monitor email?

Supposedly they are already doing it on Gmail?

How so, and why gmail? How do they get access to personal accounts, or lists of accounts?

  • DaltheJigsawDaltheJigsaw Mountain View Veteran
    You give it to them.

No, the issue in the article was about law enforcement using the internet to surveil people. They'd have no way of getting your email address if you're not on facebook, or anything like that. Even if you did give someone your email address, they still wouldn't have any way of hacking into your account and reading your mail, would they?

Then I stop using the internet. I'll keep my privacy the old fashioned way. It is funny how much you can confound the efforts of these... asshats, by going low tech. As it is now everything I have is tied to accounts and such with no connection back to me personally. I don't use my real name or face. Anything you see is just some random picture of a guy and a name I picked off the top of my head. My birth date is real, though. But that's not enough for anyone to go on. The state I live in is real, though the names of the towns I live in/have lived in I chose at random off of a map, and have used them for years so that it is just accepted as fact by some, but it points them way off.

I'm not anal about it and there are ways people can find out if they take the time. But most companies and such don't have the time to waste on little old me.

Well, I heard that if you use any of Googles program/software, they are keeping all of it recorded somewhere. All of your GoogleTalk information, emails you sent and received and so on.

So law enforcement would only have to contact Google to gain access to your account? Would Google cooperate if there were no warrant? Why do you say they're already doing it on gmail?

Exactly and I wouldn't doubt it. Because I saw an article and I believe that they are doing it now.

GASP! Lama's another NSA spook, like Telly!! :hair:
  • There was an article recently about the UK observing email and general internet usage. I cannot remember where the link is thouhg. I am quite sure it goes on a lot more than a lot of people even think.

I still don't understand how they can casually observe email. In order to do that, "they" (whoever "they" are) would have to go to the servers and get permission, and get access to millions of accounts. It doesn't make sense. Or I suppose they could use technology to isolate only the accounts of names on a "watch" list, or something.

Well, I don't think I'm doing anything illegal. So, it really shouldn't matter I guess? Although, who knows, maybe going to political rallies and posting far-left political views is cause for alarm with the government?

Nah. It's only when you change your name to Abdul Rahim Jamal-ud-Din that they get worried.
