Those are great dogs. I met someone who had like eight of them and a border collie named Cowboy.

There is already a picture of your little friends thread. This is just an impulsive expression of the celebratory qualities of weiner dogs..

    ...but here..

I have a mixture called a choweenie, half chihuahua and the other half weenie dog. He is named Theo. I love him very much and he is a wonderful pet.

This is my 'bezza' (best mate):

    He's called Scooby-Doo, but he's more like Scrappy-Doo, though we're normally shouting "Scooby-Don't!!!!".

    Photobucket

He seems to have recovered quite well from his cancer op too; hopefully we'll have him for Summer at least; but the vet said he could last a lot longer.
  • I like how his paws are all white and he has a soft looking face and ears.

Jake says "I concur, now gimmie some food. Wait a sec, I have to go pee on the carpet first, then I'll be back for the food" :)

  • By the thread name I thought you meant a hotdog.. (the food) lol. In the UK we call these animals sausage dogs. They always use to make me laugh, especially the really slow ones.
  • True story: My Irish Wolfhound best friend is a wiener dog. Seeing a wiener dog a 180lb monster playing always makes people stop and stare :) Love the wiener dogs <3

Seriously, rich. His legs look like rotesserie chicken drumbsticks and his belly grazes the floor! Lol...my neighbor worked so much she couldn't take her out and I offered. He was an obese Chihuahua...he's lost all the weight! I would take him on 4 mile runs 3x a week. . . The first week, the doggy had spirit but no conditioning...he would throw up every time...but now he drags me with him...I bet he could easily do 5 miles.

She doesn't have a gut.. it's just the perspective in the photo..

sigh.. She has lost weight since that picture was taken.. We were given what-for by the Vet. She is playful and frisky and active and we live beside a park that she runs in... and man can she run.. like a little chubby missile.

But..she lives in a crowded house...were certain people :grumble: equate food with love...

    we try..:o

As a dog behaviourist i have seen far worse.... I mean, far worse.
I saw a weiner dog (or daschund, to respectfully give them their correct name!) whose front paws had difficulty - touching. the. ground - she was so fat.

Seriously, this dog went nowhere unless carried.

the dogs which seem to be really prone to being fat and overfed, are beagles and labs...
And these three breeds are working/hunting dogs - they're used to travelling miles, and so lack of exercise is a major problem.
a bigger problem though, is not so much the mileage - but the activity.... these dogs are intelligent, alert, willing and able, and very attentive, and they require a fair bit of stimulation. if a dog gets bored easily, they get depressed, and if they're sedentary as well, that adds to the problem....

  • .... daschund, to respectfully give them their correct name!
    yes ma'am... :(

She also gets called.. "Puppy roo" .... "Monkey pooch" ..... "Rufus" ....and sometimes "Goosey pepper"

Dachshund. (dax hoond) Dachs = badger Hund = dog

Wiener dog -- Wiener sausage Wien = Vienna

also; doxi, daxie, dachsie, dashund, dashound, and one of our neighbors seriously called our dog a Datsun (little Japanese car for those who never saw one)

    just fyi :)
  • I can't pronounce dachshund, or spell it...but I know "weiner"...

Is it "d-ashoon "? Lord, forget it! I'll go back to weiner.

    Hot dog!

@Thailandtom...is that a real puppy in the pic? Where did you take that pic?

    @federica, forgive me...what is a dog behaviorist?
  • I can't pronounce dachshund
    "DOX-und" Couldn't be easier. :)

    "Dash-'nd" is easier.... :p

@Lady_Alison, I do what Cesar Millan does, but miles better.
    Trust me on that one....
I teach people to think like their dogs, instead of letting them carry on believing dogs can think like people.

Walt Disney has a LOT to answer for when it comes to anthropomorphising....

I won't pretend to put myself in my dog's subjective space... but there are touch points between us,.. shared mammalian desirables.. It is also apparent that she does not reflect on her behaviour.. and just goes with it , without knowing she is going with it ...and never second-guesses what she is doing. I think dog neurosis is the result of humans.

    Absolutely RIGHT.

I've never met a wild animal - in the wild - that suffers from neurosis.

All the animals I've ever come across, which have been subject to stress, nervousness or 'timid aggression', are the way they are due to their contact with humans.

We're exceptionally good at phukking most things we touch, up.....

My dad thinks the dogs pees on the rug to spite him for leaving the dog alone. My dad needs to be trained in how dogs think and don't think. :) I've tried explaining it to him but he just doesn't get it... He thinks the dog "gets mad at him" for leaving it alone and then, because it's mad, it goes and pees or chews on something... Apparently it has "separation anxiety" or something like that? It definitely does not like being left alone.

Well, I'll come and see him...
i could do with a break...

and we'll cure your dad in no time!
