question about Mala beads "snake knot"

edited April 2012 in Buddhism Basics
Wondering what does the snake knot represent symbolically on mala beads? I know there are lots of different style of tassels that are used to finish the beads off with, but i cant find any info at all about the snake knot kind... you can see what it looks like www.buddhistmala.com

    very nice.....

this link may also be of interest.

    this is an illustrated method

i have heard it said that the snake knot is to remind us that life is illusory... the rope in the dark room, that looks like a snake...?
A man sees the rope in the twilight he mistakenly apprehends a snake and develops fear. To remove this fear he must remove the mind apprehending a snake by realizing that there is no snake. Even then, if the rope is left in the same place there is a danger that the same mistake will be made in the future. The only way to remove this danger is to remove the rope. Similarly, sentient beings observing their aggregates in the darkness of their ignorance mistakenly apprehend an inherently existent I. This mind grasping at an inherently existent I is the root of samsara and the source of all fear. To remove the fears of samsara we must remove this mind by realizing that there is no inherently existent I.

This is what's often used as the tassel on a mala. The knotting is fairly simple once you get going, but I could never figure out how they get the finished ends:
