life and dream symbolism. Bring meaning to your life. Being lead astray by your mind and feelings.

Hi all I know this is a maybe odd topic but I have had a very interesting life to find the voice of God or what you may call the universe. Every single part of the brain or mind becomes separated when it comes to earth. You have different regions of the brain different beliefs different thoughts different feelings. When we are a child all that works in sync and works together. Especially if we form a strong belief in one family and love of the self and others. But as we grow up in the world we get side tracked and first end up forming self images of defending ourself then that can turn into fighting. Especially in school as we feel the need to protect or fight to survive.

You know there was a guy that had an NDE. His name is Howard Storm and he was an artist he was also an atheist. He would get mad and throw things around at times. Being angry for this or that reason. Then one time he got a stomach problem and the acid in his stomach ate through his stomach and into his system and he died. When he was on the other side he started to to go out into the hospital hallway. Then eventually some people that kind of looked like nurses took him away, saying come on, well help you. They were getting more and more agitated and mad saying come on. Then shut up. Then eventually he found himself all alone in a dark place and they turned evil and tore him up really bad. They did things to him unimaginable. They beat him up from the inside out and made him suffer really bad. Then after a long time he found him self all alone. In terrible suffering. Then he remembered his past when he was a child and how he was use to go to catholic school and sing hymns. He saw how he changed and went from innocent as a child to angry later. With all of his strength he started to sing and call out to Jesus for help. He said he did all he knew to do to call out on Jesus. Then Jesus came and with all of his radiance and healed his spirit and soul and filled him with love. Then he talked to some beings of light. Saw other worlds went back to earth some 20 minutes after he died. Then he fully gave his life to God and now is a pastor. Now he is much more loving and kind and understanding person with a message. Now I will use some dream symbolism to put a deeper meaning to what this means. So what have I learned from this. It's that the people on the other side are the mental and emotional images that he made for himself. So it's a form of idolatry. One of the ten commandments is to put no graven Image before yourself. So I think that people making mental emotional images that are in there mind and heart that are not pure is the real idolatry. And they over your life can lead you astray. Then by the end of your life. After you have wasted all your good karma you end up, all alone separated from others and by yourself. With your mental images that you really didn't want and all your bad karma with others like you. And that will mess you up really bad.

That is the kind of real life story of how Christians and everyone on this earth know about the practical side of Christianity.

I want to talk more about dream symbolism. I think when things manifest we tend to take it at face value. But all these things should be a lesson. That should teach us how to live. Since we are all the same and come from one source. The living spirit lives in each of us. There is no thing as separate. So that is why it's very important to listen to were others are coming from and listen to them. And if you can't do that you have to have just a little bit of creative faith to make a path to figure out were they are coming from.

So I think we many times we just take things at face value without realizing that we need to start connecting the dots in our life to put meaning to what life is really all about. It's only when you start looking at your life as a dream with everything having a symbolic sense that I think you can start to put together a life of meaning.

So every experience is important. Recording certain experiences and then coming back to that experience later. Then connecting experiences and you start to see a bigger picture. But most of all it's about listening to others and your inner love, which gives you greater sense of compassion and love and understanding for others.

    Peace!
  • The OP really spoke to me about my own internal demons. It made me hope for a time of resolution with my mind of mental demons. Namaste.

People on the other side are the mental images that he created for himself.

That's interesting. Could be. I've read stories about how some NDE experiencers do end up with demonic beings, and the only thing that makes 'em go away is prayers to God or Jesus, or something of that nature. I don't know what to make of it, I'm not ready to take the leap you've taken, A-P, though your conclusion makes sense.

I agree that it's how we interpret what happens to us in life that gives life meaning.

(Oh, btw, this topic is more a "General Banter" topic, it doesn't relate to Buddhism. Pick the broad category first, then post your OP when you're in your category of choice, that's how it works. B. for Beginners is the default category, if you forget to choose.)

Dakini you commented on: People on the other side are the mental images that he created for himself.

Let me point out that what I really meant was that the people on the other side are the mental images that he created for himself. I'm sure that the mental things he gotten during life didn't attack him. At least not yet. Probably by the time he was really beat up I'm sure he was suffering from some of the mental things he created. In fact if you read http://www.astralpulse.com/frankkepple.html you will see that people on the other side when they die often go through a suffering when they die. Often doing things they did when they were here, and creating all these mental emotional things around them.

    Peace!
  • This struck a cord for me astral, because I hear voices. It is quite similar.

During the last lucid dream I had, well, it wasn't wholly lucid.. It had occurred to me that I was dreaming, but I wasn't fully in control of my dream. I had noticed that I was dreaming because whatever sort of subconscious thoughts I seemed to have would manifest in the dream. It was as though I could actually see the thought processes behind the dream and it occurred to me then that this is all that dreams ever are... very subtle thoughts giving rise to occurrences. The reason I say that it wasn't wholly lucid was because although I had realized this, I was still at the mercy of my subconscious. It was actually a nightmare in which I was battling my subconscious to NOT think of certain scary elements, and well, lost because that appeared to be where the dream was heading with or without my consent. It was like a lesson in meditation because I would think, "Don't think about ______!" And naturally, the only way to have that thought is to actually think about what you're trying not to.

It was a very interesting experience on the way our mind works in dreams. It was as though things were simultaneously just "happening to me" and yet, I had become aware that I was creating them at the same time. So, I think what I'm saying here, is that even in NDEs... I think our minds could be wholly in control in some hidden subconscious way (I'm still rather skeptical of them in general). It only seems natural to me that a person raised in Christianity finds prayers to God or Jesus as the only salvation. I wonder, what would a person who didn't have this inclination do?
  • @zombiegirl, according to the TB idea of bardos the seed of desire dissolves and you see a white realm of beauty which could be heaven... Then when the seed of anger is dissolving you see a red fiery realm which may be seen as hell... From these two you can still come back to life.

But the third seed is ignorance which is a black seed and light. Not a blacklit grateful dead poster of course  Anyhow the black seed leads to the bardos of going to a new body. In between there is a clear light and it's this light that the yogis try to see and abide into. The clear light of the mind.

But nothing to freak out over. At death my lama says to remember the heart connections with people you love.

Buddha is saying the nature of life is like the nature of a dream.
