Online karma

edited May 2012 in Buddhism Basics
I don't know what got into me but I was being an ass on another website today, definitely not practicing metta. I'm really not that way especially since finding Buddhism a couple of years ago. Anyhow that got thinking about karma and if it's possible create bad (or good) karma online... what do you think?

Absolutely. I see things online practically everyday that are just screaming negative karma.

Reddit actually seems pretty bening for an online forum. Unless I'm missing something.

IMHO given the nature of this medium... the common board structure.. where communication is anonymous (or semi-anonymous) and channeled into a stream of posts and counter-posts.... the amazing thing is that anyone thinks they can avoid falling into this scenario again and again.. because everyone does to some degree. The medium counts. Practice throughout the day is a dance of. attach.. let go.. attach.. let go.. attach.. let go.. . An internet forum is that brought down to a thread.

Yes, most definitely. No question about it. Speech is speech regardless if it is written, typed or spoken. It's the same.

But it doesnt define you... ;)
  • yeahhhh, I have been there. Maybe a few times, :shake:

Right now i am letting go of a conversation. I asked on a forum with parents about how many appointments I have taken my kids to over the last school year to get some perspective. There were just a lot of unhelpful answers from people. Mostly that instead of telling me things like how many appointments they do in a regular year or a year when there are a lot of health challenges they put a lot of 'should' into the answers. Soooo letting go, do you see me? :om: It is hard to not go back and explain.

anything you do, its effect you have to bear. the law of karma is universal and inescapable.
  • Thanks all. I think I already knew the answer but figured I pose the question anyway. I guess I need to be more aware of my posts and keep from being negative. Online forums are a big part of my day now since I visit several daily. Normally I'm just a lurker though... maybe it's in my best interest to keep it that way :)
