Please accompany posted videos with some kind of explanatory comment.
it helps other members understand why you would be posting a video at all....
    Are you in agreement? Disagreement?
What manner of discussion are you hoping to stimulate?
    Thanks.

i think tolle is almost enlightened.
    everyone agrees, i believe.
  • Oh not everyone, by any means. I've run across Buddhists (some right here on this forum) who think he's basically a money-grubbing flimflammer. I disagree with them wholeheartedly, but lots of people think that way.

You'd think it couldn't hurt explaining to a mass audience about being aware of thought arising and passing, instead of being completely identified with it. But, I was invited to a Tolle "meet-up" and went out of curiosity. Somehow the regulars had gotten the message that thought was the problem, and they were actively suppressing thinking. One woman I tried to have a conversation with (over tea) had managed to flatten her thoughts completely and was all saucer eyed. I really had to work at it to winkle her out of that blank zone. Eventually she gave a weak confused smile, looked to the side like she had a thought, then caught herself and went all saucer eyed again. Also everybody thought his ideas were completely novel to him, and that he was a "world teacher".

Tolle has his niche of followers.
his sincerity shines thru in all his speeches.
as for his detractors, well some people wanted to kill buddha,
    remember?

I for one am under absolutely no illusion he is enlightened, I don't believe it for a moment, and I genuinely worry when people seem to go all dewy-eyed and into semi-swoon mode and come out with how sincere he seems and how he might be enlightened.
it's the same kind of sheep-mentality following many so-called gurus managed to cultivate in their followers.....

And 'killing Buddha' is a metaphor, dear.

Though Tolle means well, he is not a Buddhist nor does he propagate the teachings of the Buddha.

His teachings are more in line with Advaita Vedanta.

I too made the mistake of seeing Advaita Vedanta teachers as Buddhists. They have a completely different message. This isn't to say there is no worth or value to practioners who follow such teachings, but it will only lead towards the higher God realms and no cessation.

    Just fyi.
