I just purchased it, will see how it goes. I am tired of taking medicine, not only that...but they don't even work. Or if it does for only a few hours. You then have to take 1 pill every day! Crazy!

Have you tried a saline nasal spray?

I had serious congestion problems this winter (for the first time), and the cortisone nasal spray and Afrin they recommended resulted in a distinct blurring of vision, so I had to stop. I then tried the saline spray, which did help.

Yes. It was okay, but it felt weird, due to the fact that it seemed like I had to stick it in my nose a bit too far, and so I was un-comfortable, with this Neti Pot it seems that I don't even to stick it that far into my nose.
  • I've used one before, worked pretty well.

The one thing you need to be EXTREMELY careful of is that you boil the water you put in the pot (obviously letting it cool down before you use it). There was a case of a woman dying because there was a brain eating amoeba in the water when she used it.

Yeh, I've used one. You should also use a chemical free salt with the boiled water. The salt raises the saline level of the water to the same(ish) as your blood, so you don't get that 'swimming pool' feeling in your nasal passages.

But if this is to clear your nasal passages for meditation, I find the best thing to do is 'Breath of Fire'; a breathing technique which really works.

I tend to start my meditation with this breathing technique - only for about one minute - and it clears my nasal passages great; no chemicals or anything.

I use a neti pot every day.
    It's wonderful.
    I recommend it.
  • I haven't used it myself, but everybody I know who works in healthcare seems to have done, and they all love them. As noted, just use the water, not the chemicals.

It also helps to make the water body-temperature warm.
combined with the salt, (which is usually dosed accurately with an accompanying measure) the water has the perfectly-balanced salinity of your own tears.
    further advice?
Do this over a big sink.

It's actually for my allergies. But thank you for the recommendation.

I use salt and water. Which chemicals are you speaking off?

Oh! It's common to use Salt? Is that pretty much a standard?

Yeah, but it's not just regular table salt, I think.

I use it every once in awhile when I remember. It helps quite a bit.

I used regular ground rock salt.
    worked fine for me....

Despite my friend's pronouncement that neti pot use constitutes self-waterboarding, I used one and it was wonderful. Just be sure to breathe out through your mouth as the water is going in (or at least that's what works for me as a strategy to ingest less salt water).

Never used a neti pot, but I have a naughty pet. ...sorry couldn't resist.

What is the benefit of daily neti pot usage?

Clears the nostrils of debris, keeps the air passages clean, prevents congestion of the sinuses and build up of debris in the nasal passages. Aids in the treatment of head-colds, by clearing clogging.
I'd be more graphic but it's before the watershed.

I wouldn't recommend using it daily. There's no need. You can actually do damage to your nasal mucosa, and you're also potentially damaging the immune function that your nasal passages perform. If mother nature had intended us to use a neti pot every day, we'd have evolved with one attached to us. They do come in handy when you're sick though.

Thank you! I am going to be using it when I feel sick and also for allergies. But you are absolutely right! Attached to us!:)
