Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT)

This is an interesting approach that is based on Buddhist beliefs. A number of leaders in the field of psychology/psychiatry are Buddhist. It bodes very well for the future.

It is as Buddhist in it's roots as they come.

I keep recommending Kirstin Neff from Austin,TX - she's a Buddhist as well. I'm reading her book right now. More info on her website:

  • Yes, Kristin Neff is a brilliant lady. There is a lot of research that supports compassion and I also have her book. These people are pioneers in an entirely new way to treat people's problems. Thanks for that.

I heard that CFT was developed when people realised that Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction ( MBSR ) was somewhat lacking. Like a Buddhist always doing mindfulness of breathing but neglecting metta bhavana.
It's good that Buddhist practices are being adopted by psychologists, though it feels like re-inventing the wheel to me. And these people do charge quite a lot for the courses they run.
