  • It is a pretty big one and early in the season. We are crisp dry this year due to a mild winter. I looked over the map, My sister lives due east and the adoptive family of my grandbaby live southeast. Since the fire jumped the Poudre it will not be fully out for some time.

We have some air effects but it looks like Fort Collins has poor air quality right now. The stupa and retreat center are probably safe but the air quality has got to be affected. Not the best environment for breathing deep. I hope it is all okay because this summer I was finally going to visit the stupa.
  • BTW I was reading a lot more and in case others not in dry climates want to understand more. It is said that containment could come soon, within the week depending on weather. The high winds make it very difficult. However what i didn't realize even going through fires before (I lived in Boulder when the canyon fire took the most homes of any fire, forgot the official name but over 150 homes) is that totally putting out the fire is unlikely before fall. Yep, months that this fire will be burning in some way on or nearr national park land.

Really awesome when you think about it,
  • Can we collectively as Buddhists pray or meditate for more rain in northwestern Colorado? I live in Denver and it has been an extremely dry and warm year. I mean I can't complain too much because I like all the sunshine we get, but we need a bit more moisture than we've got the past two years for things like this.

And yes, nature is awe-inspiring, even in its destructive capabilities.
  • hey @ClayTheScribe where are you?
  • I live in southeast Denver at the moment, but I grew up in Thornton and I have family in Fort Collins.
  • Ahhh, I am now in Denver after years in the burbs and years ago in Boulder for a decade or so. I went to high school in Evergreen so have seen a few fires.

Do you attend any sanghas in this area, and have I already asked you that?
  • I don't attend any sanghas. I have received meditation instruction a few times at the Shambhala Meditation Center of Denver, but I am at a point in my practice where I am not ready to meditate with others. I still get too nervous around others and their energies. I suppose actually doing it will overcome my irrational fears, but I can barely do 30 minutes at home everyday so the thought of doing a 30 minute sit with others is particularly unnerving to me. My sangha is mainly on this website.
  • Ahhh I see and understand. I like the Shambhala Center of Denver, I have gone several times over the years. I have also checked out the Dharma Punx on Mondays, they are nice people. It is 30 minutes and then a talk so is easier on those who can only do 30 minutes.

In any case if you are going to one let me know, it would be cool to meet in person
