colorado fire updates

Okay for those feeling damp in the UK or other areas, here is what is happening in the high desert.

Several small fires have sparked and put out before evacuations were called.

The High Park fire (north of denver) is 100% contained!

The Waldo Canyon Fire (most destructive one ever down in Colorado Springs) is 80% contained!

Pretty much all fireworks displays for our 4th of July today have been cancelled, I can't recall one city that is still having them. We are avoiding anything on fire ourselves.

Wow - fantastic those two fires are mostly contained! We may or may not be cancelling our displays here (Wisconsin) - it'll be about 104 today, or so I'm told.

Keep in mind that contained does not equal "out".
  • @vinlyn, yes. That means that it can take months for the fire to be fully be out. The terrain sounds challenging to get the fires 100% out. But 1/2 inch of rain did help.

glad for the good news! We had a big fire here (northern MN) last fall that had to be fought with canoes as there are no roads! It was contained in October after burning for 6 weeks but was not out until our first snowfall in December. Hoping the worst is over for the fires this year for everyone "out west."
