Reincarnation of my Great Uncle.

I walk through the woods every morning, it's a way that I can be at peace and connected to nature. I can't help but think about reincarnation when I walk through them. Every animal or person could have been a celebrity, a relative, a hero of some kind. I had a cat, he was born near the time that my Great Uncle died, I felt strangely connected to him (the cat). He was quiet, he never attacked anyone or anything, I can't help but think that he may have been my Great Uncle, that he found a way back to me and my family. But unfortunately, ny lovely cat had cancer of the spine and he was in great pain, he couldn't walk, he fell down the stairs, he cried out in pain. He was put to sleep. I wonder where he went? Maybe away? Maybe he felt betrayed...

Well, it was good of you to help him out of his pain. He was very lucky to have you. All we can do is try our best, I feel. My friend who is a nun told me that in her opinion, and she believed the Dalai Lama's also opinion also, was that helping an animal out of its pain with a totally pure and positive motivation to ease its suffering, is okay as a last resort. I hope you don't worry about his feeling betrayed, but maybe ponder also that he could have felt grateful. The tribe I worked for believed that sometimes loved ones would choose to come back as animals to be near former loved ones. Maybe he chose you, knowing you'd help him when the time came, you know? It's so terribly hard to see them suffer. I think and hope that helping them in a time of extreme need is one of the most loving things we can do in this imperfect world.
