That was my initial reaction too when I looked at this quote more closely. But to deny the fear which drives you is to deny our very humaness. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I really liked that quote in the movie.

It is saying he welcomes death, he isn't afraid of it.. he is suicidal/annihilationalist about it all.

That is how I have been and that quote really helped me to realize that.

With such an attitude it is akin to giving up really, not caring. Why fight for something if he doesn't care about it.

Fear also leads to hate. Witness the shootings at the Sikh temple, at the Colorado shootings, genocides etc.

Fear is what drives evolution as in survival of the fittest, being the best, winning the gold medal etc.

The Buddhist practice is all about going against the stream.

Fear does not necessarily lead to hatred. It's an emotion which can be put to good use.

Survival of the "fittest" is a natural phenomenon. If you're a fish, you swim. If you're a bird, you fly. If you're a superhero, you whoop the bad guys' asses.
