What is going on in the Rakhine State?

Okay. So I would like to know what's going on over there in Burma. I've read various articles about the situation. Everyone has different opinions. Some people seem to think it's a religious matter, a geographical matter, I even read somewhere that it was some kind of American conspiracy. The more I tried to find out the more confused I've become. Can someone explain what started it and why it continues?

Also, it paints Buddhist in a bad light. Surely anyone who kills other, with intent, isn't really a Buddhist. Or at least, there a very bad Buddhist?

First, I hope you don't really think that Buddhists don't kill other people or go to war. You need to read up on the history of southeast Asia.

As far as Burma goes, in general, I don't at all "get" what's going on there at all. Why did the junta suddenly (and I do mean suddenly) begin to liberalize the government? I can't explain it. Seems to me they just flipped positions almost overnight.
