amelie really kicks my heart into all goo-goo

The soundtrack is also really great.
Lovely film... not, however, indicative of my personal experience with them.
Sad to say.....
...
Amelie = great film.
I found "The City of Lost Children" and "Delicatessen," which are by the same director, to be more to my taste - a bit darker in thier subject matter. Definately worth watching these if you enjoyed Amelie.
It would be nice if you could find a quote on that..... !
I lived in France for a very long time, and while as individuals they are lovely and charm personified, collectively they have a very 'closed-rank' mentality, to the point of almost being xenophobic.
They're bureaucratic, officious and care absolutely not a jot for any problems or issues you might be experiencing in those areas - if you're not French.
I was told more times than I can remember, by some in official positions - "Madame, si ca vous ne plais pas, il y a toujours l'Angleterre..."
"Madam, if you don't like it, there's always England..." In other words - if you don't like it, go home.
The clasic Gallic shrug, accompanied by that little chin thrust, didn't mean "I don't have a clue."
It meant "I don't give a damn."
I saw it gestured more times than I can comfortably remember.
My British step-mother-in-law adopted French nationality 20 years ago, in order to be more accepted, to make it easier for her to work and integrate. She and my FiL have lived in France for more than 30 years.
The neighbours still call them 'Les Foux Anglais".
Each country has its reputations. Some deserved, others exaggerated, and others again, completely mistaken.
We're talking about France though, and as one who tried hard to establish herself in its way of life - and failed - I can speak from experience.
Interesting
Was interesting the way it was made. I really liked Amelie
But that's off topic.
Besides, to be right fair, what honestly is there to say on a topic titled 'amelie really kicks my heart all into goo goo?'.
The question is how do you manage to stay on topic with a title like this?
" If, at one time or other in your life, you have felt the overwhelming freedom associated with an unannounced, fleeting, yet direct connection with all of humanity, you probably felt liberated watching "Amélie." It's a powerful feeling of being present that reduces power itself, as well as the likes of the current fad of anal-retentive devotion to share portfolios, to just another pathetic illusion. Buddhism would call this momentary connection a first step on the path to enlightenment, and that, for me, is the ultimate message of "Amélie": Come out of your protective cocoon to embrace The Other and you will be free."

@ownerof1000oddsocks, how is talking about my experience of living in France, in a topic discussing a french film about someone's living in France, going O/T?
We can discuss it via PM, if you want to continue.... Up to you.
