Please elaborate. I kinda stopped watching football when the Eagles signed Mike Vick. I'm a Philadelphian and a Pit Bull owner, so I made leap off out of the cess pool of immorality that is the NFL.

  • Well...then none of my descriptions of tonight's amazing plays will matter ;) I rarely watch the game, but hubby's recovering from eye surgery and I'm offering...moral support.

Btw it's entirely possible to watch football AND be LOUDLY critical of Michael Vick's crimes. Which I am. But I sympathize with what you are saying, and it's one of the better reasons I've heard for giving up football.

Thats very supportive. Taking one for the team, so to speak. :) I'm working on forgiving Vick... its probably one of my most fruitless hang ups, but I'm just not totally over it yet. Go Pack! (unless your a Bears fan, then Go Da Bears! HA!)

I'm okay with forgiving Vick, but letting him play again is unconscionable. When you mess up that badly, you should lose your perks, forever. Not lose sympathy--just perks (like being allowed to play NFL). As my intrepid guitarist would say, "That's your burden now." I think you're right...maybe boycotting football is a good idea, and doing so loudly.

Since I'm from MN, I think it's almost illegal to cheer for the Packers, but I secretly like them better than then Vikings. Don't tell anyone.

I played football as a kid. One of the things that was immediately clear to me was that the best football players were always the biggest assholes. The NFL is essentially a collection of "the biggest assholes", because you kinda have to be to succeed at the highest level of that game. I know thats terribly judgemental, but I am open to being proven wrong... it just hasn't happened yet. Exceptions not withstanding. hehehehehe......

Even not being a big Vikes fan, Adrian Peterson is actually a really good guy, and a really good player. I've really never heard anything bad about him (that I can think of). But yeah, we also had Randy Moss, so, overall I think you are right. I watched a lot of football when Barry Sanders was playing, but it seems to have lost something (class?) in the past 20 years. It just seems like it's become so filled with hoodlums.

Yeah... I'm not trying to say everyone is an asshole, but the crux of that sport is violence. Words like "kill" and "destroy" are thrown around rather liberally. Many players get extremely deppressed after a long football career is over because of both lingering concussion symptoms and inablity to assimilate into a non aggressive lifestyle. Those were essentially two of the reasons that Barry Sanders retired much earlier than expected. That, and the Lions stunk. Sanders is my all time favorite football player. I used to try to play like him because I was short and fast. I wasn't much of an asshole, though, so I wasn't very good.
    :)
