... and figured I'd drop in and see how everyone is doing. So, how are you all doing? What's new in the newbuddhist.com sangha?

I've still been practicing, lacking in the meditation as usual but have picked up chanting mantras, which have helped out a bit. I also recently decided I wanted to start eating a little better and not eat over-processed foods. I've been buying purely organic foods and it's amazing how good I feel after eating. I have also stopped/ am trying to stop eating meat. Mainly because I feel really dragged down after eating a big fat steak or a large burger. I have found some great vegetarian options though, many companies make veggie burgers that taste similar to regular burgers, as a matter of fact one in particular tastes better imo.

So again, what's new people?

Brigid, great to see you on myspace! :)

edit: I just realized this is not in the "lotus lounge" and I meant it to be, oh well!

Good to see you here again! I can completely relate to how you feel so much better by eating foods that are not over-processed, etc. I live mostly on a raw foods diet (all organic, etc) and when I do eat processed foods, it makes me feel pretty crummy!

    Anyways....good to see you around!

    Hey, LFA!

Good to see you on MySpace, too!

I so totally understand the food thing, too. I recently had to drastically change my diet and I feel the difference acutely. Once you start eating organic and whole foods your whole body changes and when you eat something heavily processed or a big slab of meat your body will scream at you.

The first thing I noticed when I cut out the processed stuff, dairy, red meat, white sugar etc. was my mind. My head got so much clearer almost right away. It was like coming out of a fog. So cool. You'll notice way more changes because I have to take all sorts of meds for my back which interfere but if you're not taking a lot of drugs you'll notice a massive change. I've heard over and over that people experience a leveling of their moods, they get calmer and more able to handle the challenges life throws their way. The difference in children is supposed to be like night and day. Parents really freak out when they start seeing the differences in their children's behavior.

Eat clean. That's where it's at!

It's good to see you again. How's your family?

    LFA,
I'm glad you posted. I do have a few Buddhism books for you. Look for a PM and I'll tell you what I can send you, free of charge or that cool cd you were telling me about.

By the way, have you seen "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey"? Learned about a ton of bands that I had never heard of. Some really cool stuff out there! Love Arch Enemy and Opeth.

    Hi LFA,
I'm glad you're back, I've been wanting to ask you if you know of a Temple in the Jacksonville area. I go there a few times a year to visit my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. My son-in-law is a Marine, stationed there.
I stopped eating meat too, I'm putting effort into this Buddhism practice. Now I decided it's for Kathina, (three months) and for good. I haven't intentionally killed any living beings for weeks now. I like knowing that.
I can't seem to get any decent meditation in either, it's too noisy and unpredictable around here. Now I know why Buddhists all over the world go to such great lengths to build Temples, the only quality meditation time I can count on is mondays when I go to the Temple. It's 120 miles round trip, and I hate to use the gas, but it's worth it. I bought an old diesel Jetta, I plan to use biodeisel and/or veggie oil as much as possible in it once I get it fixed up.
Sorry if thats too much info, your post really hit close to home with me. That seems to happen alot for me on this website.

Thanks everyone for the responses, fell back off the newbuddhist wagon though again....

Zenmonk: A few answers but not enough, many questions....

Federica: thanks for the help in trying to move it, but I guess it's just fine where it is...

YogaMama: It is quite amazing, I've been doing the orgnic thing as well as the veggie diet and I not only feel better but lighter. Not meaning I've lost weight, but I don't feel bogged down and slow all the time. It's great so far.... missing burgers a small bit but I will break that attachment very soon.

Brigid: Myspace is a bit of fun eh? It get's boring every now and again but it's great to meet so many people. Ditto on the veggie thing as well. It hasn't changed my kids much so far, except for my son's neo green poo!! :eekblue:

Jerbear: Thanks for the PM, I'll respond to you about that in a PM as well. I haven't seen that movie yet, but have seen it listed On Demand so I may have to give it a try. There are lots of great metal bands out there, so many genres as well so there's pretty much anything for any metal fan.

SimpleLayPerson: It happens to me quite a bit on this site too. As far as the temple thing, I don't think there is one in Jacksonville. I heard of one in Wilmington and e-mailed them and it bounced back. I called as well and the number is now owned by an old couple. There are many out in Rakeigh but that is to much of drive for me right now. The killing bugs thing has become a strong thing I'm trying to be mindful of as well. It's kind of hard down in here in the South though not aciidentally stepping on one or something similar to that. I do not intentionally kill them though unless they might harm someone. Hence a week or so ago I killed a Black Widow spider, mainly in fear of it getting near my young children. Sorry I couldn't be much more of a help with the temple location.
