Take a look at these two links...
I for one, am delighted....
Also beneath, is a copy of a post from E-sangha, where I discovered these articles/links...

"There has been some debate over whether the Bhikkhuni Sangha should be revived and I want to make it clear that this is resolved.

From what I have seen the Bhikkhuni Sangha has been fully reinstated, at least in the U.S. and Europe. The German born Ayya Khema was fully ordained as a Theravada nun. She ordained several women and even ordained some men as monks.

In the U.S. Walpola Piyananda and others have ordained women as fully ordained nuns. They wear the saffron robes (not white ones) take all the precepts, 200 to 300, all ten major precepts that the monks do and have full equal rights.

There already is a fully reinstated Bhikkhuni Sangha and I think it is great!

Cultural practices that attempted to put women in inferior positions were the results of later commentaries and culture, not the Buddha's teachings.

The Buddha was asked in so many words, "is there even one woman nun who is fully enlightened." The Buddha responded, "There are not only one hundred . . . or five hundred, but far more bhikkhunis, my disciples, who by realizing for themselves with direct knowledge here and now enter upon and abide in the deliverance of mind and deliverance by wisdom . . ." Sutta 73 Majjhima Nikaya and also in other sutras too.

Buddhism is the only major world religion that has portions of its scriptures (therigata, sp?) written by women.
May peace and well being go to all these courageous women, entering the sangha in the fully reinstated Bhikkhuni Sangha.

David S."

Whilst I agree entirely, Fede, that it is a good thing that women's ordination should be with us again, I find it abhorrent that it should be men who decided on its 'validity'.

    Fede,

Have you heard of Tenzin Palmo. She is doing a lot of good work establishing female nunneries in the Tibetan tradition.

    http://www.ascentmagazine.com/articles.aspx?articleID=114&page=read&subpage=past&issueID=4
Tenzin Palmo is a Buddhist nun who is becoming known around the world as the English woman who spent twelve years in a cave, high in the Himalayas. She is also a Buddhist who has vowed to attain enlightenment in a woman's body, challenging the institutionalized belief that only the male form can reach liberation. Now, as she travels internationally giving talks wherever she is invited to speak, in order to raise funds to build a nunnery in northern India, Tenzin Palmo is a dynamic incarnation of the emerging and powerful feminine principle in Buddhism.

Simon, I entirely agree, but it is still a good thing that at least they are equalising the roles... un tout petit pas a la fois, je pense, est toujours un avantage.....
