Suggestions for book on Suttas?
I love that we can all get so much information off the internet for free from great resources. My problem is that I do better with a hard-copy of text that I can take with me away from my computer (sorry, no ipad or fancy phone, here) and interact with by marking up with notes (yes, I know Kindle and the like have this function, but I like paper). I know that I can print information out, but it becomes costly with ink being so expensive. So- Does anyone have any suggestions for a book or books (I'd prefer to find something that has multiple suttas bound in one book) that I might purchase? As a beginner (and previously coming from an atheist or at least agnostic view), I would really like to just deal with the basics at this point, without a ton of a translator's interpretations, which may be somewhat biased (although some explanation would be useful, I'm sure). Maybe I'm asking for too much, like I want my cake and eat it, too.
Another question would be- is there a text that might be useful in helping someone like me explore the Pali language, from a beginner standpoint? I am very enthralled by languages, in general-- how language has developed throughout time, how languages and cultures are effected by other languages and cultures, etc.

They are all available on Amazon if you do a search for them, here is the link for one of em -

now to start out small and much less expensive, you can do what I did and grab a copy of the Dhammapada, which is perhaps the most famous book of suttas, and the Sutta Nipata. -
you can get them both in one book even for 11 bucks - http://www.amazon.com/Dhammapada-Sutta-Nipata-Second/dp/192677728X/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1361552586&sr=1-2&keywords=sutta+nipata
if you'd like to learn Pali you can actually check out this recorded Pali course by Bhikkhu Bodhi, a formost monk scholar, here - http://bodhimonastery.org/a-course-in-the-pali-language.html
it's meant to be used with a book which he lists for you to buy on amazon.
I love Thay Nhat Hanh-- saw his books on the Diamond and Heart sutras and also the Lotus Sutra, which I think may be out of print now. Looks like a winner; I will definitely check it out- thanks!
