I remember my friend from HK saying she found a "pretty big apartment" when she moved there... and I found out it was 500sqf.

That's actually not bad, (500 sqfeet) as mine is around 500 sq feet and that is a one bedroom for two people. I am paying $1100. I do live in California though.

I'm not saying 500sqf is tiny, but I definitely wouldn't say it's "pretty big!" I've never been to HK, but I can only assume from her statement that it is a more generous size relative to apartments that many average HKers live in (her family is fairly well off).

But of course, it's all relative. If you're used to living in apartments, then 500sqf is probably normal. I'm used to living in a basement of a house, so anything under 600sqf is quite cramped to me.

Makes sense! I am working on moving out and getting a 700 some sq feet. That will be amazing! It's funny, as I used to live in a studio with my girlfriend, and that was like 350 sq feet? So this was a bigger jump.
