Lawrence Lessig, the founder of Creative Commons and champion of intellectual property reform, has turned his attention to campaign finance (corruption) issues in the United States. He has founded a Super PAC with the expressed goal of dismantling the legal framework that makes Super PACs possible by targetting individual elections to get candidates that support the effort. They're currently raising an initial round of money to conduct a pilot program for the 2014 elections here: https://mayday.us/ If that goal interests you, please check it out. The deadline for meeting their funding goal is tomorrow, 4 July.

what's a PAC?
posted on my facebook page.
PAC stands for political action committee, and is the vehicle used in the United States to circumvent campaign contribution limit laws.
Thanks for the definition, In the UK PAC stands for the public accounts committee - a balancing act.
Honestly, @Linc, I'm watching FB bulletins and there's so much mad legislation, and lobbying and so many idiotic, moronic, crazy, extremist, prejudicial, biased, blinkered and downright lunatic moves going on in the USA currently, it's hard to believe that the USA is arguably the world's leading Super-Power...
Yeah, I know, right??
It took me an hour of serious internet searching to find out the Supreme Court did not allow some corporations to opt out of covering all birth control in their healthcare plans. Facebook et all had pictures of Viagra set side to side with birth control pills as examples of what's 'covered' and 'what's not'. We have actual Supreme Court judges (all male, hmmm) who think two kinds of hormone pills and IUDs are 'abortifacients'. They would all run around with sterile spoons catching those fertilized eggs that don't implant, would they? Mandatory panty checks? Ovulation sniffing dogs? Yeah, it's gone crazy over here.
Nah, this is the kind of shit 'we the people' get in an uproar about. Preferable by far to a soundly educated, critically thinking public.
PAC stands for POWER AVAILABLE for CASH.
It is said that money is Speech, not purchasing power. Or maybe I misunderstand the sophists on the nation's high court?
The funding was successful
