Anna Nicole Smith dies?

edited February 2007 in Buddhism Today
i know it's not really a "buddhist" themed news story but it is a pretty sad story. Her son recently died, as her new daughter came into the world. And now she leaves the daughter with no mother. Very sad for this child.

(CNN) -- Anna Nicole Smith died Thursday at a South Florida hospital after being discovered unconscious in her hotel room.

The reality TV star and former model was 39.

"I can confirm that she is deceased. It's as shocking to me as to you guys," Smith's attorney, Ronald Rale, told Reuters. "I don't know anything further. [Her lawyer and husband] Howard [K. Stern], obviously, is speechless and grieving."

Smith's private nurse called Seminole Hard Rock Hotel workers at 1:38 p.m. and security went to the room, Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger told reporters.

Before rescue worked arrived, Smith's bodyguard performed CPR on her, he said.

She was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood at 2:10 p.m. where she died, Tiger said. (Watch how Smith's death leaves daughter's fate undecided Video)

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, according to the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office.
Smith's legal woes

Smith was involved in a paternity suit regarding the parentage of her daughter, Danielynn, as well as other disputes, including some regarding a house she stayed at in the Bahamas around the time she gave birth.

Earlier this week, Smith was included in a class-action lawsuit against a company, TrimSpa, for which she had worked as a spokesperson. TrimSpa makes a product it claims leads to substantial weight loss. The lawsuit alleges the marketing of the product, TrimSpa X32, was false or misleading. (Full story)

Smith's son, Daniel Wayne Smith, died at age 20 just days after the birth of Smith's daughter.

Pathologist Cyril Wecht said a lethal dose of methadone and antidepressants caused cardiac dysrhythmia, leading to his death.

In June 1994, the then-26-year-old Smith married Texas oil baron J. Howard Marshall II, 89, who had an estate valued at $1.6 billion.

He died the following year, and Smith waged a 12-year feud with Marshall's son, Pierce Marshall, over the inheritance.

She initially won a $474 million judgment, but that was scrapped when a Texas state court ruled that Pierce Marshall was the sole heir.

In May 2006, however, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Smith could pursue her fight in federal court. Pierce Marshall, 67, died in June.

I feel really upset by this. I really liked her-although I think half of the time she was high. her "husband" however.... Mr Stern. he just strikes me as a fruitcake-he never seems "all there" however condolences to him to be respectful-i suppose.

I hope she rests in peace-she did not get a lot of peace while she was here.

    respect.

    Am I out of touch....?
    Who is she?

Well, she was a model for Guess clothing a while back, and then she posed in Playboy, and then she married a really old man who was a billionaire, and then he died shortly after. So she has been in a battle for the inheritance for years now. Anyways, like a lot of "famous" people here now, you really don't have to do much to be famous (ie...Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie), so Anna Nicole was kind of along those lines. Just someone that the press followed. She was a bit "strange" and always appeared to be on some sort of drug or something. She had a reality tv show of her own for a while.

I was really upset, too. It's all been so terribly sad, so heartbreaking. Ditto to everything you said, Xray.

MMMM stories are rife about his and her drug habits-specifically his supply of drugs to her-like I said, hes a nutbag/fruitcake. there is some conjecture about his involvement with her son's death etc.

The passing of anyone - on a human scale - is always sad on some level. Even with the passing of Sadam Hussien - there were many that were opposed to the slaying of a man that tortured or painfully killed hundreds if not thousands.

But - it is still sad.

I'm just glad that I've never really gotten into this sort of media tracking. Other than her passing and a couple of odd bits of information - I have no idea what is going on with her.

    What did she say?

She suggested foul play. "How many 39 year-olds do you know, just die?",
same as how many 20year olds do you know just die?-I suggest its very strange."
