Stop rhetoric, says Speaker [ 2007-3-25 ]

KIRTIPUR, Mar. 24: Speaker of the Legislature-Parliament, Subhash Nembang has said commitments in rhetoric alone would not be enough for maintaining lasting peace in the country.
Inaugurating the National Youth Buddhist Conference here today, Speaker Nembang stressed the need for preparing the necessary bedrock for establishing durable peace and unless that was done peace would be limited only to commitments in speeches alone.
He underscored the need for taking the country forward smoothly through the transition period in the changed political context.
General Secretary of the Dharmodaya Sabha, Suchitraman Shakya pointed out the need of propagating the message of peace propounded by the Buddha in the nooks and corners of the country in the present situation in which the country is wracked by violence.
Alleging that the government was apathetic towards propagation of the Buddha?s teachings which are worthy to be emulated internationally, President of the Youth Buddhist Group Nepal, Triratna Manandhar said the Buddhist education was inevitable for transforming the present situation characterised by violence into one of peace.
Chairman of All Nepal Bhikkhu Federation, Kumar Kasyap said the main duty of the Youth Buddhist Group is to induce the general public towards moral conduct by adopting the tenets of Buddhism.
Treasurer of the Group, Tej Narayan Manandhar and Ashok Dhwaj Mahasthaveer elucidated on Buddhism and the principles of Buddhism.
Two books on Buddhism were also released at the programme. Founder President of the Group Harsha Muni Shakya was honoured on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Speaker Nembang has said home work including amendment to the Interim Constitution is underway for taking the country forward on the federal structure.
Inaugurating the Gorkha F.M. 93 Megahertz here today, Speaker Nembang stated that a high level commission would be constituted in the near future in order to determine what kind of system to adopt under the federal rule also.
He opined that the media has an important ole to play in making the people conscious in the great task of writing a new Constitution through the constituent assembly.
Leader of the Nepali Congress Arjun Narsingh K.C. said the media could play a crucial role for making the democracy inclusive. He added that the media itself should be conscious for making the people well informed about the constituent assembly.
President of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Bishnu Nisthuri said the media could not foster until there is political stability in the country.
