The band Agni is one of the founders of the modern Indian Rock Music scene. This song is "Tandav" from the album "Mrityunyaja" (2002). The album could be considered to be one of the forerunners of Vedic Metal, with its Sanskrit lyrics, religious themes and the amazing fusion of Indian and Western music. It is a very rare CD.

I was shocked when I found out a couple of years ago that Anoushka Shankar was being nominated for a Grammy - her sister Norah Jones was nominated for a Grammy too!

I don't listen to Nora - but I listen to Ravi and Anoushka quite a bit.

I've also been digging this song quite a bit. Love the tabla, the didgeridoo and the guitars doing that middle-eastern/indian feel...

Ustad Zakir Hussain is the tabla (drum) player.

Tabla Beat Science is a musical group founded in 1999 by Zakir Hussain and Bill Laswell. Its style consists of a mixture of Hindustani music, Asian Underground, Ambient, Drum and Bass, and Electronica. Laswell met with Karsh Kale (who had worked together with Bill for years), and they later teamed up with Talvin Singh and Trilok Gurtu. All six have written for Tabla Beat Science's music.
