Something cool I did yesterday...

edited May 2007 in General Banter
...I had to take my daughter to an appointment in Boston but afterward I got a chance to meet a friend (Rod from theworsthorse.net) I've been chatting with for sometime on the internet. He works for Wisdom Publications in Somerville, so when me and my daughter arrived I got a chance to tour the facility. The place was more like a temple than a publishing company. it was so nice and serene, I was envious of him for working there. What a great place. And the amount of books are enough to make any reader salivate. I was "spoiled" by my friend as he gave me a bag of books, a Wisdom hat and a shirt. I am so thankful to him for hooking me up, and giving my daughter the tour. He also took us out to lunch. It's amazing how kind some people can be. As we walked to the diner for lunch, a homeless person asked for spare change. Unfortunately I had no loose change but my friend willing and happily reached out of his pocket with a few quarters and helped this man out. What a kind person he is, I am grateful to have someone like him to call friend.

Afterward I took my daughter over to the kids museum and we had a good time there. She wanted a venus fly trap from the gift shop, so I got it for her. My wife was like, "what are you getting an 11 year old a venus fly trap for?" Because she wanted it silly, it's not going to eat anyone, it's a plant!

And to top it all off the weather was in the mid-80's, was a beautiful day all around!

the goodness in people is there Xray, unfortunately it's hard to see for whatever reason. I wrote something about it in my blog, the link is : http://preciousmetal.wordpress.com/2007/05/08/everywhere-i-look-i-see-kindness/"

Sounds like a beautiful day all round, LFA. It's so totally great that you got to share it with your daughter. Speaking as a daughter myself, I know it's days like those that she will always remember. When a girl has a good relationship like that with her dad she chooses better boyfriends later. It's a self-worth thing. So well done! You're raising a healthy little girl and that's one of the many things this world needs more of.

My daughter and I do a radio show together at our local college station. It is called The Father/Daughter Picnic, and we play music, then banter back and forth about either music we play (I cannot get her to like Tom Waits or Frank Zappa) or just about life in general.

The people who tell us they like it, say they like it because a) we play music most people can listen to (Our newest favorite is Chick Habit, off the Deathproof CD) and they like the fact that a father and daughter can have that kind of relationship.

She is graduating from high school (tonight) and while I will probably continue the tradition with my son, I have to say I will probably shed a few tears on our last show.

ps, if you want to hear it, tune your brower to ksua.org at 4:00 Alaska time on Mondays. We really like out of town listeners. I even take requests, but you might want to email them to me before the show.

Thanks Brigid for the comment, I try to be like that with both my children. Hopefully they'll carry the legacy on with their own kids, it was definitely now how I was raised, but I was raised not to be the person my parents used to be. Although they are great now!

lol!! I didn't start liking Zappa until I was 21. Now that I think about it, I don't think I could have understood him earlier.

    Arctic,
Great post! How wonderful! I do hope you get to continue the tradition with your son. I wish I could tune into the show but I'm on slow dial up and internet radio just doesn't work. But as soon as we move into town I'll look for you and your son. I'll also email you some requests that will keep you, as well as your listeners, very entertained. I LOVE sending in requests!
