I just spent a week in a field training exercise (ftx), and I learned some very good lessons about myself doing so. The purpose of the ftx was to practice some traditional combat engineer tasks, which included some very physically demanding tasks, such as a 9 mile ruck march with stations along the way. I tell you, nothing teaches you more about yourself than going to the edge of your limits and then going over, while you find yourself still going on.
