How superstitious are you?

I have just heard that President Obama has had to swear the oath of office a second time because the word "faithfully" was in the wrong place! This reminds me of so many superstitions about language, even among the secular-minded.

Do you believe that the stumble in the oath invalidated it in some way?

Or is this just another sign that lawyers actually run the US?

Isn't that funny? However, it was Chief Justice John Roberts' formulation of words that Mr. Obama followed. Apparently these things aren't practiced in the USA as they'd be in England.

By golly, some fringers are claiming that documentations of Mr. Obama's birth in Hawaii are forgeries, so who knows how much mileage they'd get out of this one without a retake?

Well, the Chief Justice is also a sports fan. Probably had his mind on the next Hoya basketball game (that's Georgetown University for you cricket-obsessed sorts). And yes, lawyers run America. I'm sure they redid it just to avoid any possibility of some stupid lawsuit being brought in some lame attempt to invalidate the whole affair. Yes, it happens!

Even the lawyers agreed it wasn't necessary. It was just a preemptive way to stymie the naysayers. Less fodder for the Coulter & Limbaugh folks if they can't say "he didn't even take the oath correctly!"
