Dessert Question

With all the diet topics I was thinking of this one. If we eat just enough to sustain our bodies and not use food as an enjoyable thing. Does that mean no more cheesecake? :(

Typically, yes, it would mean no more cheesecake. Think of it this way...what does cheesecake do for your body? There really is not anything nutritious in cheesecake. Other than the fact that it is probably the most delicious thing in the world ( I LOVE cheesecake!), it is so bad for you. I don't even remember the last time I had cheesecake and now you have made me want it!! :) I am not sure how Buddhists feel about treating yourself once in a while....but if it's not an issue, then I am sure once piece of cheescake every now and then would be fine.

LOL!!! I keep seeing the Oreo cheesecake at the store and I keep telling myself it's not good for me.

It's so hard to turn that stuff down sometimes, isn't it?? At my office, the owners theory is "There always has to be chocolate in the office", so there is this huge bowl of chocolates right by my desk at all times. Usually I can ignore it without any problems, but some days it is really hard to not eat the whole bowl!

I hear that. With my messed up allergy I have always eaten more sweets than I should. Now I just love them so much. I am working on training my mind to just say no. But yes cheesecake is my big weakness. I like it with chocolate or caramel over it. :p

STOP talking about yummy cheesecake! Have you ever eaten at the Cheesecake Factory? Their food is awful, but their cheesecakes are soooo good! Ahhwell...today is Friday and that means it is our "treat night" after dinner tonight. My hubby and I each pick out a treat to have after dinner on Friday's. I usually get some sort of sugar free ice cream, but I think I might go for the Ben and Jerry's tonight!! Have you ever had their "Chubby Hubby" ice cream?? It is the best ice cream in the world!

I have never gone to cheesecake factory. Never been to Ben and Jerry's either. I think I will head to the store and buy an Oreo cheesecake today. I'll make sure and eat a few peices for you. LOL

Ben and Jerry's is just ice cream that you can buy at the store - you've never had it? It is so delicious!

I have no will power when it comes to sweets. And thats bad..haha

Isn't it, though? What is it about sweets that is so hard to resist?? I mean, I can turn down any kind of junk food in the world...chips, fries, soda, but when it comes to sweets, it is so hard for me to say no!!! I hate it!

I'm not a fan of the cheesecake, but I do love me some of those iced cream Dips that are out now.

    Good stuff.

i work in a bakery, i don't want to see those cakes ever again!

think of it this way: junk food you can eat a lot of and not realize how much you've eaten because most of it really isn't all that filling. junk food also doesn't look very attractive in comparison to that chocolate-drenched sheet cake with icing swirled on the top.

You guys have it right, though...cheesecake is still good. I'll eat it, but not indulge too often. That's close enough to the middle path, isn't it?

Well I went an bought an Oreo cheesecake tonight. This is th efirst time I did it mindfully. Usually I get a craving and I just go. I have had this craving off and on for about three weeks and I just kept telling myself no. Tonight I didn't feel I really needed one but I figured why not. After eating a peice it didn't taste as good as it used to. I think it's just me.

Don't you guys remember the middle path? Moderation not abstaination. In other words, a slice is ok. It has emotional benefits that warrant it occasionally, I believe. Eating an entire cheesecake in one sitting..... the guilt you'll feel later will outweight the good (not to mention the damage to your health!).

Food can be very pleasurable but in the end all it really is is fuel.

That means it all looks pretty much the same once it's been digested!

So, if you're into being health conscious then better quality fuel may be needed.

But I have to quote the late great Bill Hicks and say:

"There are non-smokers dying every day."

Such is the nature of life :)

It is not all the same once digested. Sometimes hard, sometimes soft. I have to be very mindful of my diet being that if I eat too much meat I end up going into the bathroom and nothing comes out.
  • edited July 2005
Okay - hard or soft it's still excrement, isn't it!

Yes but it makes you feel different each time which makes it different.

Dessert just happens to be a more calorie-dense food so when you occasionally treat yourself counter it by cutting down on those damn vegetable calories.

That will be easy for me. LOL. Today I had zero vegetable calories.
