Dalai Lama meets a devotee from my temple ( short but nice article )

edited August 2009 in Buddhism Today
I found this really short article on my temple newsletter. Its nothing special but I just thought it was nice to see two quite differant faiths getting along with each other and appreciating the things they have in commen. Makes a nice change from the almost constant news of one religion trying to blow another religion off the planet because of some silly obsession with being '' the truth''

It came with a picture that my computer wouldnt let me cut and paste but the link to the article can be found here...

I think the Dalai Lama is quite an amazing person...how incredible it must be to have a darshan with him..

Id love to be able to have a darshan/ audiance with him one day but I think thats only for important people :(

An audience with the
Dalai Lama

Krishna Priya das was honoured to
receive a personal audience with the
Dalai Lama during a recent visit to
Dharamshala, north India. The head
of Tibetan Buddhism spoke of ahimsa
(non-violence) and sadbhav (harmony
between people) - principles also
followed by Vaishnavas.
He expressed his appreciation for the
work of Srila Prabhupada in promoting
ahimsa around the world. Special thanks
to Dr Madhav Mehra and D G Jija Harjit
Singh for making the arrangements.

    Hi Channah,
I'm slow on the uptake. Your link made me realise you are a Krishna devotee (doh). Well, it's nice to have a broad mix of people here. I'm looking forward to reading more of your stuff.

    Namaste

Just a little quibble with the article. The Dalai Lama is not the "head of Tibetan Buddhism". He is the head of the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism and the secular leader of the nation. Tibetan Buddhism doesn't have a pope. Just wanted to clarify. Nice article tho. Thanks.

    Srivijaya,

Its probably my fault for not mentioning it before.. I tend not to say anything mainly because i think a lot of people have stereotypes about hare krishnas that arent always accurate... we tend to get written off as hippies in orange trying to sell people books .. which is kind of true but we are also ordinary people too and not all of us are so full on... ...

also - ive only been a devotee for about a year, im still finding my way in the whole movement, understanding what its all about. But i also feel very pulled to buddhism too and i couldnt say if in a year from now ill still be a devotee which is another reason i didnt really want to put it out there...

being a devotee works for me now, but im really just following my path and seeing where it ends up and theres nothing to say that in a year from now i wont be a practising Buddhist instead...

guess i was just keen to not be stereotyped.. but yes - i am a hare krishna devotee...

Palzang : Thanks for the correction there... its always good to be accurate- Ill pass your correction on to the temple editors...

Nothing wrong with a mind as open as the sky Channah - look at me - Quagan or Paker with strong Buddhist sympathies.

I've deleted several posts due to needless bickering....caz, if you choose to bicker, do it through PMs. keep it off forum and stop trying to drag threads off topic.

    OK?
