There is a vase on display.
It is the most beautiful vase in the world.
It's value is astonishing, expensive...
Men and Women from around the world covet it
The sage realizes it's true value
It sits empty, untouched by the hands of mortals.

Portrait
I didn't have this face,
so calm, so sad, so thin,
and neither these eyes so hollow,
or such bitter lips.
I didn't have these hands with no strength,
so still, and cold and dead;
I didn't have this heart
who won't even show itself.
I didn't notice this change,
so simple, so certain, so easy:
- In which mirror was my face lost?
Cecília Meireles
Although its not buddhist, it aways makes me ponder about impermanence.
if you don't get it- it could be a koan for you !!
I thought it was only on a few levels,
Are you Brazilian? How cool to have a Portuguese speaker here! I can't speak a word of it, but I love Brazilian music, and also Fado. :-)
I read a few months ago that the Girl from Ipanema recently turned 60 years old. If you want to ponder impermanence, think about that while listening to a recording of the song that Moraes and Jobim dedicated to her.
Moc,a do corpo dourado, do sol de Ipanema
O seu balanc, ado e mais que un poema
e a coisa mais linda que eu ja vi passar...
That's the "before" picture. Your poem is the "after" picture. :-)
Let me just say that is a fantastic translation :wow:- I study these things I wish my English was as good as that and it's my native tongue! Interesting to have a Brazilian influence on. More please.
Indeed! Actually not done any of the Koan thing as yet but know what they're all about. I'm sure it'd be a good one to ponder. How's your 'method' going by the way. You were pushing your endurance as I recall...
